Episode 1 recap: Promise and Zhao Jin met at a pet shop.
As the evening approached and the night fell, a black SUV pulled over. Zhao Jin and Promise started talking inside the car, both feeling a bit guilty about their actions. They comforted each other and then Promise got out of the car. Just back from working overtime that evening, Promise and her good friend Shi Ran were venting their frustrations while joking around.
Since the next day was the weekend, the two could relax a bit in the evening. So, Promise went to her best friend's house to have a drink. At that moment, Promise's boyfriend, Peng Yu'an, called her to ask about their plans for the next day. However, because Peng Yu'an was busy managing his startup and dealing with financial matters, he couldn't accompany Promise all the time. After exchanging greetings, they hung up the phone.
However, Shi Ran, Promise's best friend, felt that their behavior didn't resemble that of a typical couple. They were very polite during the phone call. Both of them had drunk a lot that night and unconsciously fell asleep in the living room. The next morning, Promise was awakened by the sound of her alarm clock and suddenly saw bloodstains, which frightened her. She woke up Shi Ran and realized that it was their pet cat that had woken up. Then, she remembered that the cat had been a bit unwell the previous night and felt some self-blame, thinking that she should have taken the cat to the hospital. However, at that moment, Shi Ran was busy with her business, so she entrusted the cat's care to Promise. Promise searched everywhere and finally found the cat.
In a fluster, Promise carried the cat to the hospital, and coincidentally, Zhao Jin was starting work at that time. The two entered the hospital together. Since Promise was unfamiliar with the cat, she got scratched while picking it up. Zhao Jin handed the cat to a nurse for examination and helped Promise clean her wound. However, Promise worried that she might contract rabies and blamed Zhao Jin for not giving her a rabies vaccine. Zhao Jin refused, citing that she worked in a veterinary hospital and didn't provide medical treatment for humans.
Zhao Jin added Promise on WeChat using the phone number Promise had left. Zhao Jin discovered that Promise sold flowers and used it as an excuse to chat with her. While having tea, Promise wiped her wound and suddenly thought of the scene where Zhao Jin was cleaning her wound, feeling a warm sensation.
In addition to being the owner of a pet shop, Zhao Jin also applied for a job at a martial arts gym and became a new coach there. Coincidentally, Promise's boyfriend, Peng Yu'an, also worked at the same martial arts gym, and that's how the two of them met.
In the evening, Promise came over to wait for Peng Yu'an. Just as they were about to leave, Zhao Jin happened to see their figures from behind, but in a moment of confusion, she wasn't sure. While Peng Yu'an drove Promise home, they talked about work in the car, but the conversation wasn't very pleasant. On the other hand, Zhao Jin stayed at home and had a barbecue with a few friends.
After driving Promise home, Peng Yu'an wanted to console her and ease her temper. At the same time, he noticed the injury on Promise's arm and felt guilty. However, the way Peng Yu'an chose to console her made Promise angry. While having breakfast at home, Peng Yu'an talked to his father about settling down. His father had high expectations for Peng Yu'an and hoped that he could take care of both work and family.
Back at Promise's home, her mother and grandmother started arguing again. Promise had no choice but to go home and comfort the two elderly women. However, in the end, the two of them ganged up on Promise, and she suddenly realized something was wrong. It turned out that the two elderly women had already planned it together—they wanted to urge Promise to get married quickly. Promise once again went to her best friend's house and, unexpectedly, learned about Zhao Jin's home. It was located upstairs from her best friend's house. Curiously, Promise inquired about the whereabouts of the male protagonist and found out that Zhao Jin was living with another woman.
Zhao Jin is not perfect. He has his own temper, he can feel insecure and lacking in confidence, and he has his own "gray area" that he doesn't want others to touch.
With his father's alcoholism, his mother leaving, his sister's illness, and his ex-wife's betrayal, Zhao Jin has endured deep wounds.
However, he still chooses to be a gentle person and bravely pursues the right to be loved.
That's where Zhao Jin's charm as a character lies, not just in his "moral ambiguity." Compared to a Zhao Jin who is good at sweet talk and romance, I would rather see a vibrant, three-dimensional Zhao Jin full of life and energy.
Women, they're so fickle and emotional. If they no longer love you, they can quickly move on from their emotions and seamlessly dive into the arms of the next person they like. Even if a 10-year relationship ends for any reason, they should take some time to calm themselves down.
But they just can't stop themselves from living together with their ex-boyfriend. They haven't even taken their belongings yet, and they haven't completely ended things, but they've already confirmed a new relationship with someone else.
It's difficult for them to let go.
