Episode 9 recap: Yang Xun faced retaliation.
At this moment, Song Yunci heard someone next to him mentioning that he might face disciplinary action, but he didn't mind at all. He immediately agreed on the spot and without hesitation, he started making a call to the factory using the phone of the person beside him. After returning to the factory, Song Yunci stood alone on the podium and earnestly briefed everyone on the progress of the bamboo project. He also mentioned that the higher-ups were giving the factory one year to complete this task, and if it wasn't completed, the factory would be shut down. However, if successful, there would be numerous benefits. Despite facing many challenges, the people present expressed full confidence and believed that everyone could succeed. During his time at the factory, Song Yunci had truly felt the enthusiasm and unity in everyone's hearts.
After gathering important figures together, Song Yunci spoke to Deputy Factory Director Cao about entrusting her with full responsibility for this task. He stated that all resources would be directed towards this project, meaning that all hopes of the factory were concentrated in this endeavor. Upon hearing these words, Deputy Director Cao immediately accepted the challenging task without hesitation, fully prepared to devote herself to it. At this point, Song Yunci made his stance clear. He did not force anyone regarding the decision of whether to stay or leave. After listening to his words, everyone expressed their willingness to stay and advance together.
Time quickly passed, and it was soon the Chinese New Year of 1994. Lei Ting (the factory) celebrated the New Year joyfully for all its employees. Everyone gathered together, talking and laughing, enjoying food and drinks. Shi Hong Wei took this opportunity to present the awards given by the provincial authorities to everyone and thanked Lei Dong Bao for his contributions. Lei Dong Bao promptly stood up and expressed that the award was the result of everyone's collective efforts. He then announced something new regarding cables, and everyone applauded and agreed. He even pulled Secretary Gong aside and asked him to say a few words.
During the daytime, Song Yun Hui on the other side continued to discuss work matters with everyone. Someone nearby, upon hearing about the situation at the factory, mentioned the idea of persuading the older employees to retire so as to alleviate some of the burdens on the factory. However, the people sitting nearby couldn't bear to give up on those older workers. They continued to discuss financial issues and prepared to sell equipment to raise funds.
While Yang Xun was busy working, he witnessed the hardships faced by the workers who were forced to be laid off. He felt a sense of discomfort and upon returning, he deliberately brought up the issue of wages. However, Liang Fan felt that there was no reason to sympathize with them. As a result, the two of them decided to compromise due to their respective issues.
Feeling frustrated, Yang Xun realized that Liang Fan had gone too far. He quickly called Song Yun Hui to vent his frustration. The person on the other end of the call understood his feelings, even though they couldn't offer any assistance. Nevertheless, they provided encouraging words to uplift Yang Xun's spirits.
Afterward, Yang Xun continued to run around for work matters. When he received news of his sister's injury, he immediately rushed over to bring her home and take care of her. While sitting down, Yang Xun attentively served his sister, even going as far as to pick out food for her. Unexpectedly, Yang Li was feeling down at that moment and cautiously reminded her brother to be careful outside. Upon hearing these words, Yang Xun suspected something and continued to probe through his sister, eventually learning about the rumors circulating among the workers, accusing him of benefiting from their labor.
