Episode 1 recap: Late at night, a murder occurred in a ship cabin amidst heavy fog.
In the realm of prisons, there is nothing graver than capital punishment. And within capital punishment, nothing is weightier than one's first love. And within one's first love, nothing is more crucial than testing it. The person responsible for solving the case seeks to uphold the rights of the living and speak for the dead. In "Song Ci's Compilation of Wrongful Convictions," portrayed by Sun Zeyuan, he places more trust in the evidence provided by the deceased than in the oral accounts of the living. The living often conceal the truth with lies, but the testimony of the deceased can never be false. Some may believe their judgments to be flawless, but they are mistaken. Every trace and every clue at the crime scene tells a story. Song Ci frequently discovers relevant evidence at crime scenes, ultimately proving the facts of the culprit's crime.
Song Ci deliberately affixes a fake beard, claiming to be a new constable. He then arrives at the scene of the murder of the master of the Yang family. Shortly after, he instructs the servants to recount the entire incident, deducing that the envoy must have recently died based on the worldly circumstances. Song Ci gently examines the body and quickly infers the time of death. By analyzing the spatter pattern of the bloodstains, he realizes that the fatal injury is not the knife wound on the neck.
The first to discover the envoy was the housekeeper, Qin Si. At that moment, the real constable arrives and is surprised to find that it is Song Ci. Initially angered by someone impersonating him, the constable quickly changes his attitude upon seeing Song Ci, who had previously helped him solve numerous major cases. Song Ci has already grasped most of the details of the entire case. The master of the Yang family has seven knife wounds, but based on the spatter pattern of the bloodstains, Song Ci senses something suspicious. No one would use their body to block the spray of blood, which means the culprit did not strike a vital area.
There is only one possible explanation for the circumstances at the crime scene: the master of the Yang family was stabbed several times after his death to create this scenario, and the actual cause of death is poisoning. The culprit deliberately fabricated an alibi. Upon analysis, there is only one person highly suspicious in the entire scene: the housekeeper, Qin Si. He quickly kneels down and denies his guilt.
Song Ci intends to conduct an autopsy, but it is something ordinary people cannot bear. However, Song Ci presents his reasoning, as only Qin Si knows the master's habits best. Initially, Song Ci couldn't completely determine whether Qin Si was the culprit, but he deliberately set a trap to expose Qin Si's true colors. Song Ci's sister, Song Qing, is being pursued by a group of debt collectors. Song Ci himself owes a significant amount of money outside, and when Song Qing hears these so-called reasons, she becomes extremely angry, never expecting her brother to accumulate such debts outside.
In order to help Song Ci evade debt collectors, Meng Hesheng and Song Ci got into a fight. Song Ci learned from him that his sister was going on a blind date with a man who had admired her for a long time, but that man turned out to be unattractive. Song Qing intentionally went to disrupt their blind date and became extremely angry. She even chased him with a broom when they returned home. Song Ci didn't want his sister to marry someone she didn't like, but because he owed a lot of money outside, he felt that if she didn't marry a wealthy person, he wouldn't be able to repay the debt.
After Song Qing returned to her room, Song Ci wanted to find the suspect in his own way. However, his sister hoped that he would focus on something serious and strive to pass the official exams. Wealthy Tian sought the help of Lord Li. Just then, Sun, the constable, came to report on the latest investigation. He felt that Qin Si wouldn't be capable of coming up with such a clever murder method and suspected that there might be a more skilled person behind the scenes.
Wealthy Tian planned to transport a batch of tea and sought the assistance of Lord Li. However, the people transporting the tea saw a woman in a red dress on the ship. They mustered up their courage to approach her, but suddenly, the woman jumped into the water without making any sound. The two of them screamed in fear. Soon, news spread about Song Ci dissecting the envoy, and everyone found his actions completely incomprehensible.
Word quickly spread that Wealthy Tian was killed by a female ghost on the ship. After learning about this, Song Ci hurriedly went to investigate the scene. Lord Li was also present and informed Song Ci about the situation, along with the testimonies of two subordinates, which seemed to prove that Wealthy Tian was killed by a female ghost. However, these claims did not convince Song Ci at all.
Song Ci personally examined the body of the deceased and determined that Wealthy Tian had struggled desperately before his death. The two subordinates were initially lured to the bow of the ship by the female ghost. Upon hearing Wealthy Tian's loud screams, they quickly arrived at the cabin and found that he had already passed away. Song Ci concluded that this case was definitely a result of human intervention, and the secrets behind it needed to be unravelled one by one.
