Episode 8 recap: Song Ci unveils the mystery of the fake envoy from the Jin Dynasty.
Soon, the guards reported that they had found the location where Zhuo Lutu was murdered. Lord Wei and his entourage hurriedly went there. Bai Xue Yan also promptly informed Han Fu about this matter. In fact, Han Fu specifically mentioned Bai Xue Yan as the initiator of the Five Nations Alliance, making him the prime suspect. Now that envoys from other countries had been killed, if Uthman's princess were to be murdered as well, Bai Xue Yan would be the only culprit. Therefore, regardless of who the real murderer was, Han Fu would make Bai Xue Yan the scapegoat. The next step was to determine the identity of the victim.
Han Fu also asked Bai Xue Yan about Song Ci's character. Bai Xue Yan believed that Song Ci seemed fine for now. Thus, Han Fu instructed Bai Xue Yan to stay by Song Ci's side, as he could learn many valuable lessons. It was highly possible that Song Ci would become a pillar of the Great Song in the future.
Song Ci examined the upper body of Zhuo Lutu's remains and found the whole situation very peculiar. Moreover, considering that Zhuo Lutu insisted on leaving at night, Zhao Xiao Liu felt that he was deliberately seeking death. This remark struck a chord with Song Ci. After returning to the inn, both Song Ci and Li Zi Fang suspected something was amiss with the Jin Dynasty envoy. After all, Alan seemed completely unaffected by the incident. They could easily suspect that Zhuo Lutu was an impostor.
Alan went to meet his brother, and coupled with his unusual behavior, it indicated that the person they initially encountered at the inn was the genuine Jin envoy. To prevent further investigation, they sent Alan to assassinate them. It was undoubtedly the work of the Jin people. However, at present, everything was merely speculation, and concrete evidence needed to be found.
Coincidentally, Li Zi Fang spotted Yin Qiao, the girl who had previously saved them while disguised as a boy. Yin Qiao still wanted Song Ci to repay the debt. Li Zi Fang directly handed the silver ticket to Yin Qiao, knowing that money was not her primary concern. Li Zi Fang then proposed a business deal with Yin Qiao, and she readily agreed.
Upon Li Zi Fang's return, she happened to overhear Song Ci questioning Bai Xue Yan about some matters regarding the inn. This was perfect, as Song Ci even brought some drugs extracted from the deceased's stomach. Li Zi Fang was concerned that Bai Xue Yan would refuse due to the gruesome nature of the evidence. However, to her surprise, Bai Xue Yan agreed.
Song Ci got drunk in the evening, but fortunately, Li Zi Fang supported him all along. In fact, Alan quietly followed them from behind. Li Zi Fang and Song Ci intentionally led Alan to them. Song Ci openly admitted that he already knew the Jin Dynasty envoy was fake, and the real envoy was Mr. Zeng from the inn. Just as Alan was about to make a move against Song Ci, Yin Qiao unexpectedly appeared before them. Lord Wei quickly arrived and took Alan away.
Zhao Xiao Liu likes Bai Xue Yan, so whenever she thinks of him, a smile unconsciously appears on her face. Lord Wei never expected that Song Ci would discover the Jin Dynasty's plot so quickly. Song Ci also believed that this case was so poorly executed that it couldn't have been the work of a single person.
When they arrived at the inn to find Mr. Zeng, they were surprised to find that he had also died unexpectedly at the inn. The reason the Jin people arranged a fake envoy was to save their own lives. Song Ci asked everyone to leave and thoroughly examine the crime scene. The people downstairs were extremely frightened, as they never expected Mr. Zeng to be killed.
Soon, Song Ci finished examining the scene and stated that he would question everyone. However, at present, no unusual sounds were heard when Mr. Zeng died. Zhao Xiao Liu suddenly remembered hearing a thud in her room and had instructed Mr. Zeng not to speak. It's possible that the sound was made by the culprit.
At this moment, Jin soldiers had already entered the city. They were furious over the death of their envoy and wanted to hold Great Song accountable. However, they found themselves surrounded by soldiers. Han Fu arrived upon learning of the situation and mentioned that both the real and fake envoys had died. Moreover, the fake envoy had insisted on leaving the city, and they couldn't stop him.
