Episode 5 recap: Lin Wenyu infiltrated the Song family to find evidence.
At first, Duan Xunchuchu didn't expect that Lin Wenyu had actually gotten married. He hurriedly went to her room to question her how she had found a new love in just a few years. Lin Wenyu responded that it was exactly what he intended, as she never acknowledged herself as part of the Duan family. Vice Minister Su noticed Duan Xunchuchu's feelings for Lin Wenyu and advised him not to get entangled with her, reminding him of his purpose for returning.
In the middle of the night, Lao Yang woke up to find someone pointing a gun at him. He was brought to the hall and made to kneel in front of Duan Xunchuchu. Duan Xunchuchu asked Lao Yang if he was involved in the massacre of the Duan family ten years ago. At that moment, Yang's subordinates hoped to come to his rescue but were already subdued and brought forward by Duan Xunchuchu. In order to save his own life, the subordinate revealed that he had been ordered by Yang to kill Duan Xunchuchu's parents back then.
Just as Yang was about to seal his lips, Duan Xunchuchu grabbed him by the hair and asked him if Su Mu was the mastermind behind all this. Seeing that Lao Yang remained silent, Duan Xunchuchu shot him in the leg. Finally fearful, Yang was about to reveal the true mastermind when he was silenced by a hidden gunshot.
