Episode 9 recap: He Shengan, a bandit, was reorganized by Duan Xunchuchu.
Wanzhen came to find Duan Xunchuchu. When she arrived at the door, she overheard people talking about a dangerous mountain road with no return. So, Wanzhen devised a plan for Lin Wenyu to take that route. However, halfway through, Lin Wenyu was attacked by bandits. At that moment, Duan Xunchuchu led a team of soldiers to rescue her and publicly declared that she was his woman. While Lin Wenyu was helping Duan Xunchuchu fasten his buttons, someone knocked on the door. Both of them became alert instantly. It turned out to be Deputy Officer Su who came to deliver clothes for Lin Wenyu. Lin Wenyu disguised herself as his attendant and left. However, her figure caught the suspicion of Song Zhenyuan, who went upstairs and discovered that the dropped jewelry was missing.
Lin Wenyu thanked Duan Xunchuchu for saving her; otherwise, she wouldn't have escaped unscathed. In the evening, while delivering supper to Duan Xunchuchu, Lin Wenyu overheard his conversation with Deputy Officer Su. She learned that they were investigating the treasury and that Su Mu's subordinates had become bandits, making Su Mu a target. Lin Wenyu directly intervened, claiming that she had a way to help. Duan Xunchuchu criticized her for overestimating herself and sent her away.
Deputy Officer Su believed that Lin Wenyu could be of use, but Duan Xunchuchu refused. Wanzhen accidentally overheard workers at Yaren Hall discussing how Lin Wenyu was going to deliver goods to a distant place, passing through the bandit's hideout. She schemed to frame Lin Wenyu. When Duan Xunchuchu learned that Lin Wenyu deliberately lured out the bandits under the pretense of delivering medicine, he rejected Wanzhen's invitation and directly led a team of soldiers to rescue Lin Wenyu.
As expected, Lin Wenyu encountered the bandits, and she slowly got off the carriage and asked about their identities. He Shengan ordered his men to open the box but found it empty. His subordinates explained that they received intelligence that Lin Wenyu was indeed carrying valuable medicinal materials. He Shengan realized he had been deceived and decided to take Lin Wenyu to Qingfeng Mountain as a hostage. At that moment, Duan Xunchuchu arrived with his men to rescue her. He Shengan used Lin Wenyu as leverage for self-preservation, but Deputy Officer Su, who was secretly present, directly injured He Shengan. Lin Wenyu recognized his identity. It turned out that he used to be her father's subordinate.
Finally, Lin Wenyu found Uncle He and inquired about what happened in the past. He Shengan explained that Lin Wenyu's father, Su Mu, returned to the hometown upon learning that Commander Duan was in trouble and went to rescue him, but he didn't return. He wasn't a traitor. Afterwards, Duan Xunchuchu, moved by He Shengan's loyalty and the true story of the former soldiers of the Duan family, decided to reorganize them.
