Episode 24 recap: Yingying breaks the curse of heartlessness.
Yingying, for the sake of her master, once again engages in a fierce battle with the fox demon. However, no matter how hard Changqing struggles, he cannot break the curse of heartlessness that imprisons him. Suddenly, the sky begins to snow. Changqing looks at Yingying lying in his arms and can no longer bear the pain of losing her. The two of them embrace silently in the snow. Yingying grabs her master's hand and tries to leave, but the fox demon, infuriated and ashamed, attacks them. Yingying fights back without hesitation, but in the process, her hairpin accidentally falls and breaks. As Changqing sees the broken hairpin, memories of their time together start to resurface—the moments they spent chasing the love bug, being trapped together, eating candied hawthorns, and all the little things in the Jiang Mansion. Changqing regains his memories, which drives the fox demon even more insane.
As long as Changqing regains his memories, his time of death approaches. Yingying has lost a soul and cannot break the curse of heartlessness. The fox demon grabs both of them, but unexpectedly, at a critical moment, Yingying willingly gives up her immortal roots and chooses to stay in the mortal world forever, only to be with Changqing. Only when Yingying and her master join forces with the Eternal Unity Seal can they seal the fox demon for another five hundred years. However, the price they pay is depleting their immortal roots and becoming mortals for eternity, enduring the pain of unrequited love throughout their lives. Their responsibility is to protect the happiness of all beings in the world.
The fox demon's plan is once again defeated, and in the fierce battle, Yingying and Changqing exhaust their strength. Everything in the mortal world returns to its original state. All the lovers finally unite and live a happy life. Changqing and Yingying, in the name of great love, sacrifice their personal desires for the greater good. Ultimately, they are just passersby in each other's lives, condemned to love each other but never be together. (End of the play)
