Episode 10 recap: Ji Chu investigates the truth behind Liu Xiang's death.
Soon after receiving the news that Liu Xiang had passed away, Hua Qing Ge burst out of the room upon hearing the news and followed Ji Chu to see what had happened. Hua Qing Ge overheard the guards saying that there was no murderer in the room, only talismans sent by Ji Feng. Shortly after the talismans were applied, Liu Xiang was killed.
Hua Qing Ge looked at Liu Xiang's body and still couldn't believe that all of this had happened so suddenly. There were no other exits in the cell, so it could be said that Liu Xiang was killed in a locked room. Ji Chu deliberately asked Hua Qing Ge who killed Liu Xiang. Hua Qing Ge knew that Ji Yun was responsible for this, and now he was being questioned about it. He ultimately failed to protect Liu Xiang.
Since witnessing Liu Xiang turning into a monster with his own eyes, Ji Feng's emotions were also in disarray. He had dreams about the virtuous concubine and his mother was by his side, constantly comforting him. Ji Feng just wanted everyone to get along well, but he didn't expect things to turn out like this. Wei Gui Fei was there, comforting her son and promising to stay by his side.
Lin Xi Yao also examined Liu Xiang's body and discovered a secret passage in the dungeon, which was the key to the problem. Hua Qing Ge searched around for it. At this point, Lin Xi Yao suggested that Liu Xiang's bestial behavior might have been triggered by some kind of drug and that once the effects wore off, he would return to normal.
Hua Qing Ge felt that it was clearly Ji Chu's doing, yet Ji Chu pretended to know nothing. In Hua Qing Ge's novels, the poison would have been detected immediately, but here it wasn't found, indicating that things were indeed different from his own story.
Ji Chu also mentioned that the main suspects in Liu Xiang's murder are the Ji Feng family. Hua Qing Ge only then realized that Ji Chu's target was actually the Wei family. Hua Qing Ge initially wanted to investigate the case together with Lin Xi Yao, but Ji Chu didn't allow it. Ji Chu first questioned the three on-duty prison guards. The guards recalled that during their watch, only Liu Xiang's personal maid had come and even showed them some pastries. As for whether they actually ate the pastries or not, they were not sure.
Hua Qing Ge suspected that perhaps Liu Xiang couldn't be found poisoned because she had eaten the pastries. Ji Chu questioned her intensely, but Hua Qing Ge continued to pretend that she knew nothing. Another prison guard came forward, begging for mercy and claiming that he had been drunk that day. He didn't want to be killed for negligence. When he entered, Liu Xiang was still alive. Ji Chu deliberately questioned Hua Qing Ge, asking why she wasn't afraid when hearing such news. Hua Qing Ge didn't know how to explain.
The third prison guard came forward and reported that when he rushed in, it was pitch black inside and he didn't see anything. Liu Xiang's father, in the end, couldn't bear the loss of his daughter's life. He vowed to avenge her. Ji Chu handed over the typical residue to Gong Ye Qi to help examine, hoping to find some loopholes.
