Episode 9 recap: Empress Wei deliberately made things difficult for Hua Qing Ge.
While Ji Wan Er was outside, she encountered Gong Ye Qi. Ji Wan Er expressed her desire to play chess with Gong Ye Qi, but he made an excuse and left, claiming he had other matters to attend to. However, before leaving, Gong Ye Qi sprinkled powder on Ji Wan Er's face, causing her to see colorful dancing butterflies in front of her eyes.
When Hua Qing Ge arrived, she saw Ji Wan Er laughing at the air. At first, she didn't understand what was happening, but she woke Ji Wan Er up. Ji Wan Er had no recollection of what had just transpired, except for the lingering fragrance she had sensed. Having read books, she recalled that there was a type of drug that could induce hallucinations. However, she couldn't remember who she had seen just now.
Hua Qing Ge speculated that Gong Ye Qi must have drugged Ji Wan Er before leaving. In the main hall, Empress Wei intentionally called for Ji Chu and Hua Qing Ge to step forward. Initially, they thought the fake Hua Qing Ge would undoubtedly reveal flaws, but to their surprise, the empress recognized Hua Qing Ge and even expressed missing her. However, Empress Wei, suspicious of Hua Qing Ge's identity, claimed that she must be skilled in singing and dancing, and wanted her to perform. This put Hua Qing Ge in a dilemma because while she could pretend to be a skilled acrobat, she was not proficient in dancing. But the empress insisted, and if she refused, it would be considered an act of disrespecting the emperor.
Ji Yun wanted to protect Hua Qing Ge since it would not bode well for her if Ji Chu discovered her true identity. Hua Qing Ge directly approached Ji Yun and invited him to dance with her. In fact, a few days ago, Hua Qing Ge had danced with Ji Yun and Wu Xue Ji together, and Ji Yun had witnessed their dance. Thus, he remembered it well.
Subsequently, in front of everyone's eyes, the two of them gracefully danced together, which made Ji Chu feel slightly jealous. Although Hua Qing Ge passed this test, it proved that she was indeed Hua Qing Ge. Consequently, her future days would become even more difficult. Despite her own exposure, it was still worth it if she could protect Liu Xiang.
Later, Empress Wei called Ji Feng and Liu Xiang forward. Suddenly, a silver needle pierced Liu Xiang's neck, causing him some pain, but he didn't pay much attention to it. Just as the two were about to exchange gifts, Liu Xiang suddenly felt extremely uncomfortable. His eyes turned red, and everyone thought he was a monster. Liu Xiang's hair also turned white as he slowly walked towards Ji Feng. Hua Qing Ge was very worried about Liu Xiang and even disregarded her own safety to approach him. However, Liu Xiang grabbed her by the neck and lifted her up. Hua Qing Ge didn't want anything to happen to Liu Xiang, and at that moment, both Ji Chu and Ji Yun appeared, wanting to save Hua Qing Ge.
Fortunately, with the cooperation of both Ji Chu and Ji Yun, Hua Qing Ge was unharmed, and the Emperor handed the case over to Ji Chu for investigation. Hua Qing Ge had originally thought that she could prevent everything, but in the end, Ji Chu still used Liu Xiang, wanting to uncover the old case of his mother's murder.
The Emperor suddenly recalled the scene when he first saw Ji Chu's mother. At that time, he was deeply attracted to her beauty, coupled with her dancing skills, which dazzled everyone at the Emperor's banquet. However, shortly after she finished dancing, Consort Xian suddenly felt unwell and collapsed on the ground. Her hair turned white, her eyes turned red, and everyone was terrified, shouting that a monster had appeared. In the final moment, Consort Xian was shot dead by General Wei's arrow.
Ji Feng had nightmares at night, recalling the events of the past. Empress Wei had always been by her son's side. Liu Xiang's father found Empress Wei and hoped that she could help clear his daughter's suspicion, but Empress Wei said that this matter needed careful consideration. It seemed that there were still secrets between the two of them regarding what happened in the past. After the investigation, Ji Chu discovered that she was indeed Hua Qing Ge. Initially, his subordinates thought they should kill her, but Ji Chu decided against it for the time being.
Ji Chu's psyche suddenly underwent a change, and it was unclear whether it was because of Hua Qing Ge or not.
