Episode 4 recap: Brother Bao and Fan Wu Jiu collaborated to investigate the death of Wang Hai.
Xie Ping An fainted after drinking ginger soup. It turned out that Fan Wu Jiu was worried that this outsider might be a bad person, so he asked her to rest for a while. The next day, Fan Wu Jiu and Brother Bao went to Meng Po's room. Fan Wu Jiu's temple was dark, and Brother Bao was concerned. Meng Po said that there were not so many lonely souls and wandering spirits in the world and told Wu Jiu to go home and get some rest.
Nevertheless, Brother Bao still took Wu Jiu to the bewitching forest. Fan Wu Jiu told Brother Bao that she encountered her parents and asked him not to investigate Wang Hai's death anymore. While they were eating at a small stall, the villagers were discussing Wang Hai's death, mentioning things like water ghosts taking lives, and even mentioning Fan Wu Jiu's parents. Fan Wu Jiu didn't believe that it was a water ghost taking lives and always felt that her parents' death must be related to Wang Hai's case.
Brother Bao advised Fan Wu Jiu not to investigate further, considering that her parents had died over a decade ago. Wang Hai had stab wounds on the back of his neck, and there were claw marks on his ankle. He didn't die from drowning. Rather than wasting time with Brother Bao, Fan Wu Jiu wanted to uncover the truth and hoped that Brother Bao could help him. In the tavern, a chubby man was drinking heavily and eating meat. When he saw Brother Bao approaching, he nervously asked what was going on. After learning about Wang Hai's death, he explained that the big fish in the river was just a way for him to make money.
When asked how he knew about the fish in the river, the man suddenly changed his tone and claimed that he had nothing to do with Wang Hai. Afterwards, Fan Wu Jiu guessed that Zhu Meng must have been to the bewitching forest; otherwise, he wouldn't have told Wang Hai about the fish there.
