Episode 7 recap: Eighty-one trials.
Zhang Yuelu and Jing Muhou descended to the mortal world, but they couldn't control the cloud they were riding on properly and fell down. Fortunately, Jing Muhou knew a body-stabilizing technique and used it to immobilize Zhang Yuelu. Originally, they wanted to use a bundle of straw to cushion Zhang Yuelu's fall, but they didn't have an electric drill, so Zhang Yuelu fell directly to the ground. Zhang Yuelu was quite frustrated and felt that Jing Muhou only knew this one immobilization technique and used it occasionally without precise timing.
Jing Muhou claimed that he had learned something else now. He could transform himself into something else, but he couldn't use it yet because once he transformed, he couldn't change back. Zhang Yuelu and Jing Muhou were originally low-ranking celestial beings tasked with creating eighty-one trials for Tang Sanzang and his companions. However, they miscalculated one trial, so they were still short and needed to descend to the mortal world to make up for it.
They arrived at the Tongtian River, where there was nothing but a basin. Zhang Yuelu modified the basin, thinking that by drilling a hole in it, when Tang Sanzang and the others arrived, they would have no choice but to use the basin to cross the Tongtian River. When they reached the middle, the basin would leak, causing them to fall down. That way, they would have created one trial.
Jing Muhou was concerned about the scriptures that Tang Sanzang and the others carried. What if the scriptures got wet? Zhang Yuelu assured him that he had taken care of it. The scriptures were fake, so it didn't matter if they got wet. Tang Sanzang and his companions arrived and found that there was indeed nothing else there except the basin. Originally, Sun Wukong and the others were supposed to use the basin to cross the river, but Tang Sanzang had been placed in the basin since childhood and floated down the river. When he saw the basin, he was reminded of his previous miserable experience and refused to sit in it.
Zhang Yuelu thought it was over. They had miscalculated this one thing, and now that Tang Sanzang refused to sit in the basin, they had no way to complete this trial. They had cultivated for so many years, and it seemed like they were about to succeed, but unexpectedly, it all fell apart here. Zhang Yuelu had always been very eager to cultivate. Sun Wukong and the others knew that there was an old glutton in the Tongtian River and wanted to call him out.
Jing Muhou gave Zhang Yuelu the Immortal Binding Rope of the Supreme High Lord and asked him to bring it to the Supreme High Lord, transforming into the old glutton and taking Tang Sanzang and his companions across the river to complete the final trial. This would allow Zhang Yuelu to become a celestial being smoothly. Zhang Yuelu remembered what Jing Muhou had said before, about what they would do if they didn't cultivate. Jing Muhou said he wanted to become the God of Dumplings and specialize in making dumplings, and Zhang Yuelu said he would eat dumplings and give him bad reviews. Zhang Yuelu didn't expect that Jing Muhou would sacrifice himself for him, and looking at what Jing Muhou had left behind, he felt extremely sad.
