Episode 20 recap: Sun Qian Cheng was actually jealous.
Sun Qian Cheng saw Xia Ming Zhou getting out of Chen Xin Cheng's car, and they were chatting and laughing in the office. Sun Qian Cheng felt that Chen Xin Cheng was trying to seduce Xia Ming Zhou.Xiao Chang Qing also added fuel to the fire, even saying more and more absurd things, until he was finally silenced by Sun Qian Cheng's intense gaze. Sun Qian Cheng patiently advised Xia Ming Zhou, and Xia Ming Zhou listened, finally not looking so dejected.
The residents complained that the commercial electricity rates were too high, and asked why they weren't being charged the senior citizen rate. Xiao Chang Qing relayed the response from above, but the residents didn't accept it. Xia Ming Zhou stepped forward, surprisingly standing up for the residents' rights for the first time, and quickly gained the residents' support.
As Xiao Chang Qing was just a community committee director without much say, Xia Ming Zhou led the group to demand an explanation from Chen Xin Cheng. Chen Xin Cheng pacified the group, but Xia Ming Zhou then proposed setting up a community supervision committee.
According to Xia Ming Zhou, without oversight, power inevitably leads to corruption, so everyone agreed to form the supervision committee, and Xia Ming Zhou was elected as the leader. She began working hard on the construction of the senior citizen community, even having her daughter replace the old newspaper clippings on the bulletin board with new ones.
Xia Ming Zhou also saw her daughter's excellent work here, and agreed to let her stay, but with one condition - that she be diligent and hard-working. Xia Ming Zhou and three elders analyzed the developer's design plans, and Xia Ming Zhou thought they needed to add a swimming pool.
Turning half the garage into a swimming pool would require negotiating with the developer, and Xia Ming Zhou naturally thought she and Chen Xin Cheng should handle the negotiations, since they had extensive experience in the business world.
Sun Qian Cheng was mysteriously excluded, and he felt a bit disgruntled. Then he saw Chen Xin Cheng opening the door for Xia Ming Zhou as they left together, and his jealousy flared up.
That night, seeing Xia Ming Zhou still working with Chen Xin Cheng, Sun Qian Cheng changed into a suit and deliberately went to remind Xia Ming Zhou to rest early, but Xia Ming Zhou didn't understand his intention and told him to go back first.
Afterwards, the two continued working together to formulate community regulations, and seeing them chatting and laughing while working, Sun Qian Cheng grew increasingly upset. One day, Chen Xin Cheng leaned against Xia Ming Zhou's office window, chatting with her and then being invited in to discuss work.
Chen Xin Cheng suddenly became more generous, actively inviting Xia Ming Zhou to his office and even helping her move things. Seeing this, Sun Qian Cheng's face grew increasingly sour. He was worried the two might develop feelings due to their work, so he instructed Xiao Yue to go in occasionally and check on Chen Xin Cheng.
Xiao Yue didn't understand the reason, but did as instructed. While Sun Qian Cheng was consumed by jealousy, Xiao Chang Qing had to resolve the conflict between Auntie Niu and Auntie Wang by himself, finally getting the two elders to make peace. But then the frowning Sun Qian Cheng showed up, explaining he suspected Chen Xin Cheng was trying to seduce Xia Ming Zhou.
Xiao Chang Qing didn't believe it - Chen Xin Cheng and Xia Ming Zhou used to be rivals who disliked each other, so Chen Xin Cheng couldn't possibly be trying to seduce her. But since Sun Qian Cheng was adamant, Xiao Chang Qing had to do something, or else Sun Qian Cheng's unease would come back to haunt him. So Xiao Chang Qing went to talk to Chen Xin Cheng about it.
By the time Xiao Chang Qing got there, Xia Ming Zhou had already left. He started with some preamble before broaching the topic - that Sun Qian Cheng suspected Chen Xin Cheng's relationship with Xia Ming Zhou, and going forward Chen Xin Cheng should be more mindful of how he interacts with her, to avoid any gossip later on.
