Episode 23 recap: He Yi Jing learned the truth about the death of his mother, Fei.
Upon seeing He Yi Jing's return with a gloomy mood, Mo Lin Lang became worried and quickly embraced him, trying to comfort him. He Yi Jing couldn't digest the truth immediately; he simply couldn't accept the fact that he was responsible for the death of his mother, Fei. Mo Lin Lang tried to console him and alleviate his sense of helplessness.
He Yi Jing recalled the moment when he questioned the Emperor about why he killed Fei. The Emperor said that his father, the former Emperor, had developed genuine feelings for the Empress Dowager after abdicating. However, the Empress, who is now the current Emperor's mother, became jealous upon seeing the Empress Dowager giving birth to a prince. Fearing for the stability of her own son's position, she developed murderous intent and poisoned the former Emperor.
The Empress Dowager didn't escape this disaster either, but in order to protect her son, she willingly drank the poisoned wine. The Emperor felt that the imperial family was heartless, almost like a curse. When He Yi Jing saw that the Emperor didn't intend to kill him, he felt even more guilty towards his younger brother. Mo Lin Lang advised He Yi Jing that, as a prince still alive in this world, he should cherish life and strive to live on.
He Yi Jing agreed with Mo Lin Lang's words, feeling that he should live with the strength inherited from Fei. Mo Lin Lang envisioned a future where, after all these events were over, she could elope with He Yi Jing and experience a more liberated life. The Emperor, seeing the Third Prince approaching to stage a coup, felt even colder in his heart.
Upon hearing the Third Prince's intention to emulate his own act of patricide, the Emperor felt immense pain. In a critical moment, the Crown Prince arrived, saving the Emperor from disaster. While talking to He Yi Jing, Mo Lin Lang sensed that it seemed like someone was approaching the Linlang Pavilion.
