Episode 18 recap: Ge Qun Shan gave the Ge family knife to Jiang Jie.
Li Nai discovered that Li Jidong was missing and was shouting his name while searching in the village. Suddenly, Li Jidong's voice came from the radio. Unable to determine his exact location, Jiang Jie took the microphone and said that Li Jidong was in the village canteen. When Li Nai arrived, Jiang Jie thought she intentionally used Li Jidong as a cover and deliberately found him to see his miserable state. It was only when Ge Qun Shan came over to explain that they realized Li Nai had indeed come to purchase ingredients.
Jiang Jie's chess skills improved rapidly, and after a period of challenges, there was no one in the village who could match him. So he issued a challenge to Ge Qun Shan. While cooking, Ge Qun Shan played chess with Jiang Jie and easily frightened him.
To prevent Jiang Jie from getting discouraged, Ge Qun Shan explained the chess principles of "a lone cannon is hard to establish a position" and "a lone horse cannot cross the river." As Li Nai tasted the dishes prepared by Ge Qun Shan and offered some pleasing compliments, Jiang Jie's culinary skills improved even more. It was then that Jiang Jie realized that Ge Qun Shan had cooked the meal when he saw Jiang Jie still with a gloomy face.
Ge Qun Shan noticed Li Nai's concern for Jiang Jie and asked Jiang Jie to take her to pick vegetables. During the vegetable picking, Jiang Jie told Li Nai that they were never on the same side and asked her not to disturb him anymore because he didn't want to see her again.

Jiang Jie's chess skills improved rapidly, and after a period of challenges, there were not many people in the village who could match him. So he issued a challenge to Ge Qun Shan. While cooking, Ge Qun Shan played chess with Jiang Jie and effortlessly defeated him.
On the way back from picking vegetables, in an attempt to please Jiang Jie, Li Nai deliberately showed him a photo of a fish. However, after looking at the photo, Jiang Jie criticized her for not turning on the light and forgetting that this type of fish requires light.
While Jiang Jie was speaking, a handcart approached from the opposite side. Due to his absent-mindedness, Jiang Jie accidentally bumped into the handcart and twisted his foot. The person with the handcart asked Jiang Jie to sit on it, and they pushed him back. Seeing the villagers greeting him, Jiang Jie felt somewhat embarrassed. Li Nai handed him her bag to cover his face.
After returning to the village canteen, since Jiang Jie didn't want to see Li Nai, she asked Ge Qun Shan to give him an egg. Holding the egg, Jiang Jie recalled Li Nai's words and tapped his head with the egg.
The next day, Li Nai arrived at the canteen early. When Jiang Jie was playing chess, she sat beside him. Jiang Jie tried hard to shake her off and went to split firewood for Auntie in the village. However, Li Nai already knew Jiang Jie's activities through Ge Qun Shan's information.
When Jiang Jie arrived at Auntie's house, Li Nai was already waiting for him there. Jiang Jie guessed that Ge Qun Shan had leaked his whereabouts, so he asked Li Nai to split the firewood and quietly slipped away while she was doing it. Master Ge was chatting with Li Jidong when he saw Li Nai returning dejectedly. He knew she had lost track of Jiang Jie again. When Li Nai discreetly gave him 200 yuan, he revealed to her Jiang Jie's plan to go up the mountain to dig bamboo shoots.
In the evening, Jiang Jie returned to the village canteen. Ge Qun Shan noticed that Li Nai wasn't with him and mentioned that she had gone to find him on the mountain. Due to the presence of large pits on the mountain, Jiang Jie worried that Li Nai might be in danger, so he hurriedly went to find her. Indeed, Li Nai had fallen into a large pit. Jiang Jie called Ge Qun Shan for help and then went down into the pit to accompany Li Nai.
Li Nai was initially happy to see Jiang Jie's concern for her. However, she was taken aback when Jiang Jie told her in the pit that they were never on the same side and asked her not to disturb him anymore because he didn't want to see her. After being rescued from the pit, Li Nai left.
Ge Qun Shan proactively challenged Jiang Jie to a chess match. When Jiang Jie won, Ge Qun Shan refused to fulfill his promise, saying that Jiang Jie couldn't do anything to him if he didn't keep his word. Angry, Jiang Jie almost overturned the chessboard but then realized Ge Qun Shan's true intentions. The rules were that the chef's alliance must be defeated in order to completely crush the Jiang family. Otherwise, even if he won the competition, he would have to hide and eke out a living in a small village like Ge Qun Shan.
Defeating the chef's alliance had always been Ge Qun Shan's wish. When Jiang Jie started to take the knife, Ge Qun Shan initially thought he was sent by the Jiang family to eliminate dissidents. However, he later realized that it wasn't the case and approached Jiang Jie proactively. Ge Qun Shan's purpose in having Jiang Jie play chess was to train his mental resilience. When he saw that the timing was right, Ge Qun Shan gave him the knife and passed on the culinary essence of the Ge family.
Jiang Jie received the knife, knelt down, and bowed to Ge Qun Shan, respectfully calling him "Master."
