Episode 13 recap: A Mai was bullied in the military camp.
Tang Shao Yi asked A Mai if she knew what wearing that uniform meant. A Mai asked him what it meant, isn't it just being a soldier? Tang Shao Yi asked her what being a soldier meant, what the battlefield meant. A Mai was kicked out by her roommates because she looked too ugly. They carried A Mai together, preparing to give her a bath.
Tang Shao Yi could tell from her silhouette that the person standing not far away was A Mai. He walked over and slapped A Mai. He asked her to come over and showed her something good. Tang Shao Yi took out a bottle of wine for A Mai to drink. He asked A Mai how she ended up on night shift on her first day as a soldier, if someone was bullying her.
A Mai told him no one was bullying her. Tang Shao Yi told her that if anyone bullied her, she should tell him. He also said that the military camp was the home of their men, and their comrades were their family. A Mai wondered how much alcohol Tang Shao Yi had drunk to behave like this. Tang Shao Yi asked A Mai if she knew what wearing that uniform meant, and A Mai thought it meant just being a soldier.
Tang Shao Yi asked her if she knew what being a soldier meant, what going to the battlefield meant. A Mai wondered if one day she died on the sandy battlefield of the North Desert, whether Tang Shao Yi would be able to find her intact corpse. Tang Shao Yi told A Mai that they would definitely live to see the day they took off their armor and returned home, and by then, he would find several wives for A Mai.
A Mai told him she didn't need that many, just one would be enough, and they started singing together. A Mai finished her duty and returned to her room to sleep, but to her surprise, all the men on the bunk were sprawled out, leaving her with no place to sleep. A Mai thought of something very smelly that she had made before, and she smeared it all over herself.
The next morning, the roommates woke up and saw A Mai sleeping on the table. The person who disliked A Mai kicked her awake and told her not to come back to sleep if she found them smelly. Then they noticed the smell coming from A Mai's body, just as the assembly signal rang.
They all quickly went out for assembly and when they returned in the evening, everyone could still smell the odor. They started looking for the source of the smell, and eventually, everyone found that it was coming from A Mai's body.
The sergeant asked A Mai to move her bed to the position by the window and told Er Dan to follow A Mai as well. During the night shift, Er Dan was pinned down by the sergeant's leg, unable to move. A Mai came back and witnessed the scene. She told Er Dan it was okay and let him continue sleeping while she took the duty. However, the next morning, the sergeant found out about it and thought A Mai was trying to rush things. During their training, the sergeant, in collaboration with another person, deliberately tripped A Mai, causing her to fall to the ground.
Lu Gang believed that if she couldn't even handle such a simple training, how could she fight on the battlefield. He punished A Mai by making her run, but Shang Yi Zhi saw this and told Lu Gang that punishing a new recruit like that was not right. However, A Mai said she accepted the punishment. Shang Yi Zhi was very angry and felt that since A Mai wanted to run, she should run a few more laps.
Shang Yi Zhi returned home very angry, feeling that he wanted to help A Mai, but she embarrassed him publicly. Xu Jing told him that although they were like brothers who faced life and death together, A Mai was a soldier and Shang Yi Zhi was an officer. If she accepted Shang Yi Zhi's help today, she would definitely be isolated in the future.
They had witnessed A Mai's intelligence, and she was a rough gem that needed to be polished slowly. This path could only be walked by A Mai herself, and no one could help her. Shang Yi Zhi listened to Xu Jing's words and said that since he couldn't help A Mai, he would move in and share the hardships with her.
A Mai returned to the team a little late, and her meal was taken by the sergeant. Fortunately, Er Dan secretly saved a steamed bun for her. Er Dan thought that since the general valued her so much, she didn't need to suffer here. A Mai told him that she came here for something very important, and now she ate and slept for that purpose.
After training the next day, Mo Ge suggested that everyone go for a shower, but A Mai didn't want to go. They carried her towards the riverbank. Mu Bai happened to see this and informed Shang Yi Zhi. Shang Yi Zhi quickly ran over and asked A Mai why she didn't come to find him. Upon hearing this, Mo Ge and the others were scared and quickly left A Mai behind.
