Episode 15 recap: A Mai encountered Chen Qi on the battlefield.
During the night, Shang Yi Zhi was assigning tasks to his subordinates for the next day. A Mai noticed that Zhang Er Dan's hand was trembling and asked him what was wrong. Zhang Er Dan told her that he wasn't afraid or nervous. A Mai told him that it's normal to be afraid of death, and many people are. Wang Qi overheard the conversation and told A Mai that she shouldn't say such things because he wasn't afraid of death.
Shi Da Chun informed the special envoy, Jin, that their place was a rural area and there wasn't much to offer him. Jin asked General Shi when Shang Yi Zhi could return. General Shi told him that Shang Yi Zhi would return when the last soldier of the Northern Desert Army left.
Shi Da Chun suggested that Jin should just stay here and relax for a few days. Jin ordered his subordinates to quickly report the situation to the emperor. As the subordinates were about to leave by climbing over the courtyard wall, someone suddenly pulled one of them down. Chen Qi led the Northern Desert Army to set up camp in a certain location. Cui Yan strongly disapproved of Chen Qi, and he couldn't understand why the emperor appointed Chen Qi as the commander of the three armies.
Chang Yu Qing told Cui Yan to keep quiet as he thought his uncle's words were quite right. He believed that Cui Yan might be defeated by his own mouth someday. Zhang Er Dan brought a bowl of water for A Mai to drink, but she noticed that his hand was shaking so much that he couldn't hold the bowl steady.
She asked Zhang Er Dan if he was afraid. He replied that he had never been on the battlefield before and didn't know what it was like, so he was somewhat afraid. A Mai told him that there was nothing to be afraid of and that he would know once he stepped onto the battlefield tomorrow. She also assured him that it's normal to be afraid of death, and many people feel that way. Wang Qi told her that he wasn't afraid.
A Mai asked Wang Qi if he had a wife at home. He replied that he had a mother. A Mai then asked him who would take care of his mother if he died on the battlefield tomorrow. Upon hearing A Mai's words, Wang Qi became somewhat afraid too. A Mai told both of them to stand up, and the three of them formed a circle with their backs against each other.
A Mai explained to them that this is what they should do on the battlefield tomorrow so that their backs wouldn't be vulnerable to enemy attacks. Wang Qi thought A Mai's idea was excellent and wanted to share it with the other brothers. A Mai agreed to let him tell the others and urged him to do so quickly.
Tang Shao Yi came to tell A Mai that she must come back alive from the battlefield tomorrow. A Mai promised him, and they agreed to have a drink together when the war was over.
A Mai sat in the camp and was weaving small insects. Shang Yi Zhi asked her how she had the leisure to weave small insects when they were all going to the battlefield tomorrow. Shang Yi Zhi showed her a completed dog-shaped weaving, and A Mai thought he had woven an ancient mythical beast to protect her. However, Shang Yi Zhi told her it was just a dog. After A Mai took the dog and left, Shang Yi Zhi watched her figure and hoped she would return safely tomorrow.
Chen Qi decided to take a shortcut from the Wild Wolf Gorge to reach Yuzhou. Chang Yu Qing asked him to reconsider, as he believed that the Qing-Yu Allied forces might set up an ambush there. Chen Qi ignored Chang Yu Qing's advice and insisted on going his own way. Chang Yu Qing told Cui Yan that he gave up trying to persuade Chen Qi, but he couldn't bear to lose his soldiers.
Chang Yu Qing asked Cui Yan to go with him to Yuzhou. He was determined to fight in Yuzhou. Wang Qi asked Mo Ge to help him write a letter to his mother, but Mo Ge drew only circles. Wang Qi asked him to write it seriously. A small detachment sent by Chen Qi discovered the trace of the Qing-Yu Allied forces, but they were too arrogant to pay attention to the enemy.
Instead of reporting to Chen Qi, they decided to accelerate their advance on their own. Shang Yi Zhi and others had been waiting in the Wild Wolf Gorge for a long time. When they saw the arrival of the Northern Desert Army, they were all excited. Soon, the small group of Northern Desert soldiers was wiped out by the Qing-Yu Allied forces. Chang Yu Qing led his troops to the outskirts of Yuzhou, and Shi Da Chun killed the special envoy Jin. Shi Da Chun told Chang Yu Qing that the enemy was coming, and he couldn't protect him anymore.
Shi Da Chun told Chang Yu Qing that if he promised not to harm any civilians in Yuzhou, he would open the city gates to welcome him. Chang Yu Qing gave his word in the name of his ancestors from the Chang family, and Shi Da Chun opened the city gates for him.
A Mai saw her long-awaited enemy appearing in front of her and shouted to kill before rushing forward. Zhang Er Dan and others were confused by A Mai's action, but soon they followed her and charged forward. A Mai shot her token onto Chen Qi's flag with an arrow, and Chen Qi also remembered A Mai.
