Episode 30 recap: Shang Yi Zhi entered the palace to protect the emperor.
Prime Minister Lin informed Lin Ze Rou that Shang Yi Zhi would soon ascend the throne, and he had secured her position as the empress. He told Lin Ze Rou that her ability to maintain her position in the future would depend on her own efforts. Lin Ze Rou informed Prime Minister Lin that she understood.
The emperor issued a decree stating that Prince Kang intended to rebel and kidnap the eldest princess. He commanded Shang Yi Zhi to lead the Northern Garrison to rescue him. The chief eunuch served tea to the emperor, who pointed to two imperial edicts in front of him. He told the chief eunuch to deliver the one on top to Prime Minister Lin and the one below for him to take outside.
In order to protect Shang Yi Zhi, the eldest princess was killed by Prince Kang. Before her death, she told Shang Yi Zhi that only by ascending the throne could he protect the people he wanted to protect. Shang Yi Zhi and A Mai were guarding the eldest princess's body when they encountered an assassin just as A Mai was about to leave.
A Mai pursued the assassin and discovered that it was Chang Yu Qing. Chang Yu Qing told her that he had come to seek revenge against Shang Yi Zhi for Cui Yan. A Mai told him that as long as she was there, he couldn't kill Shang Yi Zhi.
Chang Yu Qing told A Mai to leave, as she was no match for him. Mu Bai witnessed everything and, just as Chang Yu Qing was about to leave, he knocked him unconscious and took him away. Shang Yi Zhi, leading the Northern Garrison, was about to leave when the chief eunuch arrived with the imperial edict.
The chief eunuch informed Shang Yi Zhi that Prince Kang had attempted to overthrow the throne by kidnapping the eldest princess, but thanks to Shang Yi Zhi's suppression, the situation was under control. Now the emperor wanted Shang Yi Zhi to enter the palace to protect him. Shang Yi Zhi and A Mai went to see the emperor, and as soon as Shang Yi Zhi saw him, the emperor called him Qi Huan.
Shang Yi Zhi informed him that Prince Kang had killed his mother, but he had already avenged her by killing Prince Kang. The emperor said that the traitorous son's death was not regrettable, and he apologized to Shang Yi Zhi. The emperor informed him that he had already ordered Prime Minister Lin to announce to the world that Shang Yi Zhi would be the next emperor.
Shang Yi Zhi felt that this was something that should have been his from the beginning, and it was what the emperor owed him. Shang Yi Zhi asked when the emperor would repay his debts to others, and the emperor assured him that he would definitely do so, as a ruler should keep his word. A Mai had an audience with the emperor and asked him why he had executed Han Huai Cheng and his entire family.
When the emperor heard Han Huai Cheng's name, he widened his eyes and asked A Mai who she really was. A Mai told him that she was Han Huai Cheng's daughter, Han Mai Sui.
She asked the emperor why he killed Han Huai Cheng, but the emperor didn't answer her. He asked A Mai to teach Yu Er well and protect him. A Mai asked how they should settle their own grudges, and the emperor said that many people in the world wanted to seek revenge against him, but who could actually kill him?
As he said that, the emperor coughed up blood and fell to the ground. He told A Mai that only he could kill himself. Prime Minister Lin's wife asked him what should be done with Lin Ze Rou now that Shang Yi Zhi had entered the palace. Prime Minister Lin told her that if Shang Yi Zhi entered the palace, then Lin Ze Rou would soon follow.
Prime Minister Lin told his wife to quickly teach Lin Ze Rou some etiquette, and Mrs. Lin hurried off. Shang Yi Zhi told A Mai that he would sleep in the palace today, and he felt guilty because it was his actions that led to the death of his mother. A Mai comforted him, saying that it was all because of Prince Kang, not him.
The chief eunuch was burning paper for the late emperor when Shi Yuan arrived. He wanted to fulfill the late emperor's final decree, which was to kill the chief eunuch. Shi Yuan asked if the chief eunuch had any unfulfilled wishes, and the chief eunuch told him that the late emperor was burdened with heavy thoughts but didn't expect him to be willing to join him.
As Shi Yuan walked out, he ran into Mu Bai. He initially thought Mu Bai was there to kill him, but to his surprise, Mu Bai was there to escort him as per Shang Yi Zhi's orders. Shi Yuan was grateful that the new emperor spared his life and told Mu Bai that he hoped Shang Yi Zhi would remain true to his original intentions in the years to come.
Mu Bai told Prime Minister Lin everything about Shang Yi Zhi, and it turned out that Prime Minister Lin was Shang Yi Zhi's father. Shang Yi Zhi and A Mai were chatting together, and A Mai said that he would surely become busier in the future, and they wouldn't have leisure time to chat like this.
Shang Yi Zhi asked her what she was worried about because she would be his empress in the future. A Mai asked if he could imagine what she would look like as an empress, and after thinking for a moment, Shang Yi Zhi told A Mai to continue wearing women's clothing. Prime Minister Lin told Lin Ze Rou that Shang Yi Zhi would ascend to the throne soon, and he had secured her position as well.
From now on, it would depend on Lin Ze Rou herself, and he told her to be cautious of A Mai. Just as Shang Yi Zhi was about to divorce Lin Ze Rou, the Northern Garrison revolted. A Mai volunteered to fight, and Shang Yi Zhi appointed her as the commander of the Northern Garrison.
