Episode 34 recap: A Mai protects Shang Yi Zhi.
Shang Yi Zhi came to visit Prime Minister Lin and told him that he had learned a few days ago that he was sick, but due to his busy schedule, he only came to visit him today. A Mai informed Qi Yu that there had been unrest in the palace and her place recently, so she asked Qi Yu and Axing to stay in a house outside the palace for now.
Prime Minister Lin asked how long Mu Bai had been leading the Northern Army and how many soldiers were under his command. The Emperor asked the ministers when the grand temple ceremony would begin, and the ministers told him that the specific time had not been determined yet. The Emperor told them that since they were all sick, they should all go back and rest.
The Emperor saw Li Yu and asked him about Qi Yu. Li Yu told him that he arrived late and when he went, Qi Yu had already been taken away by the Imperial Consort A Mai. A Mai arranged for Qi Yu and Axing to stay in a courtyard and told Qi Yu that her place and the palace were not safe recently, so she wanted him to stay there. She also told Axing that only Wang Qi could take Qi Yu away, and no one else could take him.
A Mai came to deliver food to her former fellow villagers, and a child told her that he also wanted to be one of her soldiers. A Mai told him that it's not easy to be one of her soldiers and asked the child to go and study first before going to the military camp. Shang Yi Zhi asked Xu Jing how he wanted to deal with Prime Minister Lin, and Xu Jing told him that most of the people in the palace were Prime Minister Lin's relatives, so if they wanted to punish him, they needed to know how to handle it.
Lord Bao pretended to be sick, so Shang Yi Zhi sent someone to check on him. The next day during the morning court, the Emperor asked about Lord Bao, who had been examined by the royal physician the previous day. The physician told the Emperor that Lord Bao was fine. The Emperor then asked Zhang Da Jian to bring two incense sticks and told all the ministers that if Lord Bao and the others didn't appear in the hall after the incense sticks burned out, their positions would be revoked.
Shang Yi Zhi said he was already tired from sitting and told the ministers to sit on the floor if they were tired. Lord Bao, Lord Chen, and Lord Jiang hurriedly came to attend the morning court, but they were already too late. When they stepped onto the hall, Zhang Da Jian had already announced the decree revoking their positions.
The three of them claimed to be sick in the hall, and Shang Yi Zhi told them that if they were sick, they should go back and rest. Just as the three of them were about to leave, Shang Yi Zhi ordered his men to drag them down and execute them.
One minister saw the situation and pleaded for the three individuals. The Emperor told the people around him that they had missed one person, and that person immediately dared not speak anymore.
Prime Minister Lin, upon hearing this news, knew that the Emperor intended to get rid of him. Just as someone came to report that the Emperor had arrived, Prime Minister Lin immediately got up and left. Shang Yi Zhi told Prime Minister Lin that today they wouldn't talk about their roles as ruler and subject, but only about family. He looked at Prime Minister Lin's appearance and said it seemed that his illness had already improved.
The imperial physician came to check Lin Ze Rou's pulse, but Lin Ze Rou told him it wasn't necessary and that she just needed to follow the prescription she was given to prepare the medicine. Upon seeing the prescription, the physician immediately knelt down and told Lin Ze Rou that this prescription was for inducing labor and should never be used. Lin Ze Rou told the physician to use that prescription; she had her own purposes. She also told the physician that he didn't need her to teach him what to say and what not to say.
Prime Minister Lin asked Mu Bai how long he had been serving as the Marshal of the Northern Army and what progress had been made. Mu Bai asked why he was being asked these questions, and Prime Minister Lin told him to simply report how much of the Northern Army currently obeyed his orders.
Mu Bai asked what Prime Minister Lin intended to do. Prime Minister Lin felt that Mu Bai had changed, as he had never asked so many questions before. Mu Bai told him that he had feigned death at the age of five and had been his pawn ever since. Prime Minister Lin told him that he had done all of that to save his life.
Prime Minister Lin told Mu Bai not to think about other things and to focus on his desire to reclaim the Northern Army. Mu Bai asked Prime Minister Lin what he was really planning to do, and Prime Minister Lin told him to follow his words and arrangements when the time came.
Prime Minister Lin told the two generals in the court that the death of the loyal and brave marquis was the work of Shang Yi Zhi, who had won over the two of them. Mu Bai realized that his father, Prime Minister Lin, was plotting rebellion, and Shang Yi Zhi had just found out about it.
Shang Yi Zhi told Mu Bai that he already knew his true identity, and Mu Bai told him everything. The grand ceremony began, and Prime Minister Lin started his own plan. Lin Ze Rou held a vial of medicine, and she asked her maid, Jin Chu, to bring some candied fruits for her.
Prime Minister Lin assassinated Shang Yi Zhi, and A Mai came to protect the Emperor.
