Episode 9 recap: A Mai embarked on a rescue mission to save Shang Yi Zhi alone.
Shang Yi Zhi hoped to borrow provisions, but the matter of provisions was no small issue. A Mai asked Shang Yi Zhi if he was referring to borrowing provisions or obtaining travel documents, and Shang Yi Zhi informed her that it was both. However, this matter was still undecided, and he was still working on it.
The former marquis owed General Shi a favor, and A Mai felt obligated to help with this favor. A Mai pushed open the door to find Mr. Xu, but the room was empty. A Mai had no choice but to find paper and pen and left Mr. Xu an address for him to quickly join her.
Shang Yi Zhi was asleep when he was suddenly awakened and asked to draw a portrait of himself. Upon seeing them cursing at the portrait, Shang Yi Zhi couldn't bear it anymore and pushed them away. Now they all knew Shang Yi Zhi's true identity and started chasing and attacking him. The leader was about to fall off a cliff when Shang Yi Zhi hurriedly reached out to save him.
After saving him, the man still wanted Shang Yi Zhi's life. Someone in the crowd mentioned that if it weren't for Shang Yi Zhi saving him, his reputation would be ruined. Upon hearing this, the man spared Shang Yi Zhi's life but tied him up with a rope.
A Mai entered using a rope and found Shang Yi Zhi, urging him to leave quickly as she still needed to save another person. Shang Yi Zhi asked who she was going to save, and A Mai told him it was a boy named Ming Ge. Upon hearing the name, Shang Yi Zhi realized it was the boy he knew and told A Mai that they couldn't save him now and would have to wait until evening.
In the evening, Shang Yi Zhi and A Mai found Ming Ge, but unexpectedly, as they turned to leave, they ran into the person who had tried to kill them during the day. Shang Yi Zhi greeted him, but both Shang Yi Zhi and A Mai were captured. A Mai criticized Shang Yi Zhi, asking why he didn't just leave quietly instead of greeting him.
Shang Yi Zhi felt that women like them didn't understand anything, as men were very knowledgeable about manners. A Mai realized that Shang Yi Zhi already knew she was a woman, and she warned him not to reveal this fact.
Shang Yi Zhi agreed to her request, and Xu Jing and Mu Bai successfully rescued Wei Peng, General Liang Shao, and General Zhao Qian Sun. The three lieutenants have also been apprehended.
Xu Jing led a group of soldiers to welcome the arrival of the Duke of Dingnan. Shang Yi Zhi brought pastries as an apology to A Mai. A Mai asked him how they should handle the three lieutenants the next day, and Shang Yi Zhi said he came to ask her about that matter. A Mai asked if Mr. Xu Jing had told him how to deal with it, and Shang Yi Zhi informed her that he hadn't. A Mai told him that as a regional commander, he should make the decision himself.
The next day, Mu Bai announced Shang Yi Zhi's decision to execute the three lieutenants. Mu Bai asked Shang Yi Zhi, as a commander, to say a few words. Shang Yi Zhi took out his private silver and told everyone that he would build a school, ensuring that all children could receive an education and have enough to eat. He also mentioned increasing the soldiers' pay.
Shang Yi Zhi's speech boosted the morale of the soldiers, and they all shouted loudly, pledging to forever follow General Shang and consider him as family. The Crown Prince came to pay respects to the Emperor and expressed his willingness to personally go to Qingzhou to resolve any lingering concerns. The Emperor granted his request and dispatched eight hundred elite soldiers to accompany him.
Before leaving, the Emperor told the Crown Prince that he missed his grandson and asked the Crown Princess to send the child to the palace for a few days. Shang Yi Zhi's mother, Sheng Hua, also learned about the Crown Prince's journey to Qingzhou and instructed her servant to deliver a message to Qingzhou before the Crown Prince's arrival.
A Mai thought that Shang Yi Zhi had many good qualities, and Shang Yi Zhi asked her if she liked that kind of man. A Mai directly asked Shang Yi Zhi if he was asking if she liked him, and Shang Yi Zhi quickly denied it, saying he was just a friend. Xu Jing informed Shang Yi Zhi that their provisions wouldn't last much longer, and the only option was to borrow provisions from Yuzhou.
However, the Crown Prince would arrive soon, and they might be found negligent if they weren't there. Shang Yi Zhi felt that his safety would be at risk if the Crown Prince came, so he immediately decided to head to Yuzhou. Shang Yi Zhi informed A Mai about the death of the Fourth Lord and told her that the travel documents hadn't been completed yet. A Mai said she must go to Beimo.
Shang Yi Zhi invited her to accompany him to Yuzhou, as it was a necessary route to Beimo. When Shang Yi Zhi arrived at the gate of Yuzhou, the people there were afraid that he might be an imposter from Beimo. Tang Shao Yi shouted for them to show their credentials, and upon hearing the voice, A Mai recognized Tang Shao Yi.
