However, due to the language barrier, Xie Quan Jia brought in a translator, a princess from the Western Regions. But even she couldn't understand. Later, Liu Lang told everyone that he saw a ghost resembling an eggplant, but no one believed him. The princess was scared and wanted to sleep with Xie Quan Jia. That night, the princess saw a shadow outside the window and the door was blown open by the wind. When Xie Quan Jia went to close the door, he found that Fan Zhong Ju had come to catch the ghost.
The next day, Guo Dong Li was impressed by Gu Chuan's ghost act, and Gu Chuan decided to scare everyone away using the ghost persona to reclaim the house. Xie Quan Jia, as the landlord, promised to protect everyone. Gu Chuan lied and claimed that he had seen a ghost, analyzing that the ghost was only interested in women. Xie Quan Jia believed him, thinking that as a member of the Shang Guan family, he would not dress up as a ghost just for a few thousand guan, as it would tarnish the family's reputation.
Xie Quan Jia insisted on seeing the ghost and proposed that they sleep during the day and wait for the ghost together at night. In order to obtain the title deed, Gu Chuan decided to scare Xie Quan Jia first, assuring her that he would conquer her that night. The maidservant read Fan Zhong Ju's poems and felt that they were far inferior to Li Tu's literary skills.
Xie Quan Jia was excited to see the ghost and wanted to ask if the ghost had seen her mother. If there really were ghosts, she would be even happier, as it would mean her mother was still alive in another world. Guo Dong Li watched as Gu Chuan floated past him from behind and screamed in fear. Gu Chuan took the opportunity to scare Xie Quan Jia, and the princess pulled her away to protect her, leaving Xie Quan Jia deeply moved.
At that moment, another ghost, a black one, appeared. The white ghost played by Gu Chuan was frightened and fled, while Fan Zhong Ju attempted to capture the ghost. During the scuffle, Gu Chuan's identity as the white ghost was exposed, and he pretended to faint, later claiming to have a sleepwalking condition. It turned out that Xie Quan Jia intentionally had Liu Lang dress up as a ghost to scare Gu Chuan. Finally, Gu Chuan revealed that he was there to collect debts and to protect Xie Quan Jia. He sold the house to ensure a good price and to give her a peaceful life.
Xie Quan Jia had already mortgaged the house for 2,500 guan and settled the debt with Gu Chuan. She chose not to sell the house because she didn't want everyone to be displaced.
