Episode 18 recap: The prince saved Yin Ruoshui's mother.
When the prince woke up, he saw Yin Ruoshui sleeping by the bedside. He struggled to get up, and Yin Ruoshui was startled awake. She was overjoyed to see him awake. The prince asked if she had been staying here all along, and Yin Ruoshui hurriedly explained that she had been taking turns with Cangwu. She went to find Cangwu and discovered him staring at a portrait of Lengqiu in a daze. When he saw Yin Ruoshui, he apologized and unintentionally transformed her face to resemble the appearance of the demonic Lengqiu.
Suddenly, someone attacked the prince, and Lin Cangwu quickly drew his sword to protect him. In the end, they captured a prisoner who turned out to be from the Yin Kingdom. They learned that the country was divided into two factions, and the faction in favor of war had imprisoned Yin Ruoshui's mother. Upon hearing this, the prince immediately mounted his horse, determined to rescue Yin Ruoshui's mother. After the prince left, Yin Ruoshui worriedly shared the situation at home with Cangwu.
The emperor had gained power relying on the influence of Yin Ruoshui's mother's family. However, their family's fortunes declined after the death of her grandfather, and her peace-loving mother gradually fell out of favor with the emperor. Both Yin Ruoshui and her brother became the emperor's least favorite people. As a result, her brother died in battle. Lin Cangwu expressed his apologies, as he had been leading troops to fight against the Yin Kingdom for many years. Yin Ruoshui, however, understood and acknowledged that Cangwu also had people to protect.
The prince successfully rescued Yin Ruoshui's mother and sent her back to the palace. Lin Cangwu noticed that Yin Ruoshui was eager to visit her mother, so he suggested that they return to the palace together with the prince. Without hesitation, the prince agreed because the journey was dangerous. Lin Cangwu proposed that they split into two groups. The prince would take Yin Ruoshui back to the palace first, but Yin Ruoshui's mother did not recognize her own daughter.
The prince turned to Yin Ruoshui and said, "Don't you find it surprising that your mother didn't react joyfully, Yin Ruoshui?"
