Episode 2 recap: He Hong Zhang killed to silence Zhao Younan's investigation of Huang Zong Wei.
In the evening, the sounds of flirtation between men and women could be heard in the lively KTV private room. A woman could be heard telling a man to stop making a scene because she needed to go home and pick up her daughter, Yuan Yuan. The man, nicknamed Wenshen, finally got up from the woman's body. At that moment, his phone rang, and Wenshen answered. It turned out to be his superior, He Hong Zhang, calling. He Hong Zhang informed him that he had another batch of goods and asked Wenshen to come quickly. Without any suspicion, Wenshen asked him to come over.
In fact, He Hong Zhang had already reached the door. He kicked it open and raised his homemade pistol, made in Jinyang, shooting both the man and the woman. Zhao Younan and Deputy Squad Leader Duan Ming Hong had arrived at Baijie's house, where drugs were being sold, early in the morning. However, Baijie's mother told them that Baijie didn't come back frequently, and she didn't know where she was.
Zhao Younan attentively noticed Baijie's daughter, Yuan Yuan, standing aside. She approached Yuan Yuan and the little girl spoke to her. Yuan Yuan trusted the police officer, addressing her as "Auntie." She told Zhao Younan that her grandmother had lied, and her mother had promised to come to her grandmother's house today to pick her up. From Yuan Yuan's words, Zhao Younan learned that Baijie, along with her daughter, went to the KTV to find Uncle Wen. Zhao Younan and Duan Ming Hong rushed to the KTV, only to find that it had already been sealed off. Lu Hao, the leader of the drug enforcement task force, had already arrived with his team. Baijie and Wenshen were both found dead on the sofa.
Zhao Younan discovered a trail of footprints and followed it outside, with Duan Ming Hong joining him in pursuit. Through tracking and investigation, they arrived at a noodle shop where He Hong Zhang and Huang Zong Wei had eaten together. The owner admitted that he remembered Huang Zong Wei and He Hong Zhang coming here to eat, but he didn't know the specific details about Huang Zong Wei. The brother-in-law told him that the person in the photo was Huang Zong Wei, the director of the telecommunications company.
In the evening, Huang Zong Wei received a call from He Hong Zhang, who said everything had been taken care of. However, Huang Zong Wei expressed his distrust of He Hong Zhang in Sanping and told him to lay low for a few days and not come back within three months.
After hanging up the phone, Huang Zong Wei seemed exhausted both physically and mentally. His wife brought him tea and advised him not to overexert himself. However, Huang Zong Wei said that all the exhaustion was worth it. They had been blessed with triplets, three sons who represented the military, politics, and business—the future of their family. His wife said she only wanted their family to be safe and together. Huang Zong Wei told her that she should have higher aspirations and urged her to rest early, as he needed to go to the factory to check on things.
Zhao Younan and Duan Ming Hong had been keeping watch outside Huang Zong Wei's house because Zhao Younan didn't want to disturb their children. When they saw Huang Zong Wei coming out, they took him to the police station. Huang Zong Wei didn't hesitate to mention his dinner with He Hong Zhang and even provided them with He Hong Zhang's contact information.
However, Huang Zong Wei remained tight-lipped. He only admitted that when he was working at the telecommunications company, he helped He Hong Zhang obtain a special number for a mobile phone. As a gesture of gratitude, He Hong Zhang invited him to dinner. Apart from that, Huang Zong Wei claimed not to know anything else. Zhao Younan was curious why he left such a good job at the telecommunications company, and Huang Zong Wei explained that his wife had given birth to three sons, which put a lot of pressure on him. Then he arrived at the riverside, urinated, and forcefully threw the mobile phone into the water.
Zhao Younan and Duan Ming Hong, who had followed him, were puzzled when they saw Huang Zong Wei's car. They hurriedly caught up to investigate but found nothing. Huang Zong Wei returned to the factory, put on a mask, and started working on his new type of drug. It turned out that he was using the production of onion crystals as a cover while manufacturing a virus-based drug, which didn't contain ephedrine like the previous methamphetamine.
The police interrogation made him uneasy, so he instructed his subordinate, Zhong Shu, to burn all the related documents and informed him that he would close the factory for a while. At that moment, they noticed some commotion outside the door. Zhong Shu quickly went to check and discovered a worker who was stealing the virus. Huang Zong Wei calmly appeased the worker but secretly signaled Zhong Shu to kill the worker to silence him. Zhong Shu carried out the order, and although Huang Zong Wei felt reluctant, he still instructed Zhong Shu to clean up the place.
