Episode 4 recap: Huang Zong Wei evaded capture, while He Hong Zhang was apprehended.
When Huang Zong Wei left the small restaurant, he noticed something unusual at the train station. He cautiously looked around and unexpectedly spotted Lu Hao, the captain of the county's criminal investigation team. They had crossed paths before when Lu Hao was still working at the telecommunications company. Huang Zong Wei immediately realized the situation was grim and went to a public telephone booth by the roadside to send a message to A Long, asking him not to pick him up anymore.
Upon seeing the message on his pager, A Long quickly retreated and met up with Huang Zong Wei. Huang Zong Wei handed A Long a stack of money and instructed him to register two hotel rooms and then find a scalper to purchase three soft sleeper tickets to Haining. When the 448th train mentioned by He Hong Zhang arrived at the station, all the passengers disembarked, but He Hong Zhang was nowhere to be found. The police officers realized something was wrong, so Lu Hao hastily returned with his team to Zhang Weihua's hardware store to continue their stakeout.
Huang Zong Wei returned home and told his wife, Alan, that he had helped two department heads at the telecommunications company obtain phone numbers in the past, and now they were in trouble. He feared that he might be implicated as well, so they needed to leave Sanping that very night. Alan was frightened and burst into tears. Huang Zong Wei reassured her not to be afraid and that he would resolve the issue quickly. He instructed her to pack the children's belongings and prepare to leave immediately.
Upon arriving at the hotel, A Long was already waiting there. After settling his wife and children, Huang Zong Wei asked A Long to drive him back to the village. When they reached the village entrance, he told A Long to drive to the temple at the back of the mountain while he walked back to the village on foot. The cunning He Hong Zhang didn't choose to disembark at Sanping Station but got off one station earlier. He then took a taxi to his former lover A Ying's house. Upon arrival, he demanded that A Ying serve him food and drinks, while she openly asked him for money.
He Hong Zhang repeatedly paged Huang Zong Wei, demanding an immediate response. However, Huang Zong Wei didn't contact him right away when he saw the messages. He Hong Zhang continued to page him in frustration. After eating and drinking his fill, He Hong Zhang called Zhang Weihua and asked him to bring a gun to the village where A Ying was located.
Liu Yuan's men immediately set off with Zhang Weihua. Huang Zong Wei returned to the village alone without alerting anyone and went to the old house. He intended to offer incense to his ancestors but, feeling uneasy, he struck several matchsticks in a row without igniting any of them.
Leaving the old house, Huang Zong Wei finally returned He Hong Zhang's call and informed him that the police were after him. He Hong Zhang nonchalantly replied that the police who were trying to catch him hadn't even been born yet and that he was currently in a very safe place.
He wanted to know what to do with the batch of goods promised to Chen Chang. Huang Zong Wei told him that he was leaving Sanping and would resume production in a safe place. He warned He Hong Zhang that trying to collect the goods now would be suicidal. He instructed He Hong Zhang not to contact him anymore and to leave Sanping quickly.
After the phone call, He Hong Zhang grabbed his clothes and left, instructing A Ying not to admit to seeing him if anyone asked. Taking advantage of the situation, A Ying asked him for five thousand yuan. He Hong Zhang grumbled as he picked up the package and walked out. He encountered Zhang Weihua riding a motorcycle towards him, followed by a police car. He Hong Zhang quickly turned around and ran, with Zhao Younan and Duan Ming Hong chasing after him.
He Hong Zhang hurriedly disappeared into the woods, closely pursued by Zhao Younan and Duan Ming Hong. Eventually, He Hong Zhang found himself cornered and was captured. He Hong Zhang confessed to Huang Zong Wei's involvement and admitted that the drugs he sold were produced by Huang Zong Wei. Therefore, Lu Hao and Liu Yuan split up to capture Huang Zong Wei. Lu Hao and his team went to Huang Zong Wei's house in the county town but found it empty.
He immediately contacted Liu Yuan and asked him to capture Huang Zong Wei in the village, reminding him that the villagers were difficult and to prioritize their safety. Liu Yuan and his team arrived in the village, but Village Chief Zhong Shu had already instructed the villagers not to mention that Huang Zong Wei had returned. When the villagers saw Liu Yuan and his team at the entrance, they swarmed forward, shouting that they were fake police officers, and a fight broke out. The police quickly gained control of the situation.
Village Chief Zhong Shu hurried over and pretended to scold the villagers, then brought Liu Yuan and his team into the village. In Huang Zong Wei's old house, Liu Yuan and his team discovered evidence that Huang Zong Wei had been there, and Zhao Younan also found Huang Zong Wei's belongings. They speculated that Huang Zong Wei was superstitious and would likely go to the temple behind the village. They followed him there.
Accompanied by A Long, Huang Zong Wei was in the temple offering sacrifices to the presiding monk and planning to donate money for repairing the tower, with his son's name written on it.
