Episode 5 recap: Huang Zong Wei narrowly escaped and the police arranged for his arrest.
Huang Zong Wei brought A Long to the spiritual pagoda in a temple to pay respects to his father and seek his blessings to evade the impending danger. He said a phrase, "When one succeeds, thousands of bones turn to dust," but A Long didn't understand its meaning. Huang Zong Wei didn't explain further and simply patted A Long's shoulder.
Zhao Younan and Duan Ming Hong rushed to Jinshan Temple with everyone. The shock absorbers of their car were damaged, so in order to save time, the two police officers had to get out of the car and run after it. After Huang Zong Wei finished bowing to his father's memorial tablet, he stood up and saw the police officers from the window getting out of their cars and rushing towards the mountaintop. His mind quickly raced to devise the best escape plan.
Zhao Younan and the others arrived and, upon meeting the monks, Duan Ming Hong showed them Huang Zong Wei's photo and asked if they had seen him. After asking around, only the last monk said he had seen him and had led them towards the spiritual pagoda earlier. Zhao Younan and Duan Ming Hong quickly deployed and rushed towards the direction of the pagoda. However, inside the narrow tower, all they found were the offerings Huang Zong Wei had just used for worship, and Huang Zong Wei had disappeared without a trace.
They hurriedly chased after him outside the pagoda. Zhao Younan entered the nearby forest where the coffins were placed, but she was stopped by the presiding monk, who urged her not to disturb the spirits. Duan Ming Hong also advised Zhao Younan against searching in that area. Some police officers discovered Huang Zong Wei's bag and scattered hundred-yuan bills in the forest, indicating that Huang Zong Wei might have already escaped down the mountain. They regrouped and returned to discuss their next move.
After everything quieted down, Huang Zong Wei struggled to move the lid of the coffin and crawled out from inside. He then pulled A Long out from another coffin. A Long was frightened out of his wits, but Huang Zong Wei reassured him that ghosts were nothing more than deceased people and were not actually terrifying.
After returning to the county town, Huang Zong Wei noticed police officers stationed at every few steps. He went to A Mei's restaurant to eat wonton soup, and the owner instructed A Mei to go out for a delivery. Reluctantly, A Mei left the premises. Lu Hao's subordinates were responsible for searching for Huang Zong Wei in the county town. They went from one hotel to another, showing Huang Zong Wei's photo and even asked A Mei to identify him. A Mei answered that she hadn't seen that person.
Back at the restaurant, the owner went out to buy supplies, and A Mei asked Huang Zong Wei what he had done wrong. He replied that the police were after him. Instead of answering her question, he asked A Mei if she wanted to continue working there. If not, he would help her find another job. Without hesitation, A Mei grabbed Huang Zong Wei's hand and wrote down her contact information. She unconditionally trusted Huang Zong Wei.
Then A Mei took off her apron and left the restaurant, indicating that she would go back and wait for Huang Zong Wei to contact her and arrange a new job for her. Huang Zong Wei picked up the flour from the corner of the wall and entered the kitchen when suddenly there was an explosion in the small noodle shop. Nearby police officers rushed over to investigate and started to extinguish the fire.
During the search at the hotel, the police learned that a couple with triplets was staying there. They quickly went to check, and A Long was in the room. The police asked him about the triplets, but A Long said he was the only one there. The police returned to the front desk for further inquiries and found out that they had also registered another room. When they hurriedly went to check, they found that the people had already left, and A Long's whereabouts were unknown.
At this time, heavy rain fell, and Huang Zong Wei, his wife, and A Long had already left Sanping by train and arrived in Haining. Huang Zong Wei had already bought a house in Haining, and he settled his wife, children, and A Long there. The chief organized a meeting to analyze the case, and Lu Hao received information that Huang Zong Wei had arrived in Haining. The chief ordered them to immediately go to Haining, while Zhao Younan proposed going to Dongguang Province because He Hong Zhang had mentioned that there was a major client in Dongguang, and Huang Zong Wei would not miss this opportunity to make money. Haining was just a transit station for him.
In these few instances, they were always one step behind, indicating that Huang Zong Wei had anticipated their moves. This time they had to deploy in advance. The chief agreed with Zhao Younan's analysis and arranged for them to split into two teams and head to Haining and Dongguang respectively. Huang Zong Wei bid farewell to his wife and children, and as he was about to leave, his eldest son, Jiajun, called out "Dad," which brought tears to his eyes.
After arriving in Dongguang, A Long was chopping beef in the rented yard, while Huang Zong Wei had already produced drugs in the room. When A Long entered, Huang Zong Wei repeatedly warned him not to get involved with this stuff.
Once again, I am amazed by Zhang Song Wen's extraordinary acting skills. His immersion is just too strong. The intensity and explosiveness he brings, his superb acting fills the character completely.
Every time Zhang Song Wen appears, with just a look or a gesture, he vividly portrays the character to the fullest.
On the surface, he appears simple and honest, but behind the scenes, he is a chemist with meticulous thinking.
To be able to deliver such a brilliant performance under the constraints of a small to medium budget production is truly the epitome of the saying "a thousand faces for a thousand people"!
