Episode 8 recap: Shen Qi recalled the past and proposed a breakup.
Five hundred years ago, while Shen Qi was gathering herbs on the mountain, he found Chi Ye heavily injured and unconscious. Shen Qi detected Chi Ye's breath and realized he was still alive. Shen Qi attempted to wake him up, but Chi Ye could only manage to open his eyes briefly before fainting on Shen Qi's shoulder. Shen Qi treated Chi Ye's wounds and saved him.
The clan leader knew that Chi Ye was the adopted son of Lu Tianxiong, who was determined to conquer Silver Bell Island and possess the ancient needle technique. The clan leader instructed Shen Qi to kill Chi Ye, but Shen Qi couldn't bring herself to do it. The clan leader asserted that when the enemy launched a massive attack, the Lingyi Clan would surely be defeated. However, Shen Qi still couldn't harm Chi Ye. She believed that Chi Ye still had a conscience and would not commit any atrocities, so she pleaded with the clan leader for more time. The clan leader demanded that Shen Qi make Chi Ye fall in love with her. If Chi Ye raised his sword against the clan, Shen Qi would have to die by his hand to save the clan. Shen Qi fulfilled the demand and, recalling the past, tears streamed down her face.
The sound of Chi Ye calling Shen Qi to eat dinner reached her. After Shen Qi went out, her expression remained off. When Chi Ye fed her a snack dipped in honey, memories of five hundred years ago resurfaced, when she fed Chi Ye in the same way, causing her to shed tears once again. Sensing something was wrong with Shen Qi, Chi Ye asked her what was the matter. Shen Qi didn't know how to face Chi Ye and chose to leave first. On the way, she recalled what the clan leader mentioned in the past: the Lingyi Clan's secret was that two people who genuinely loved each other would give birth to one person to resurrect the other. They would embed a silver bell-made nail into their chest, becoming immortal and invulnerable. On the day the silver bell ceased to ring, their beloved would be resurrected. However, the two could never be together for eternity, as it would not only damage their immortal and invulnerable bodies but also cause other side effects.
Shen Qi realized the great cost Chi Ye had paid to save her, and she didn't want him to bear any more of it. Tears fell once again, and when Chi Ye caught up to her, he saw Shen Qi in that state. He held Shen Qi's hand, wanting to know the reason, but she pulled away from him.
Chi Ye came to find Shen Qi, but they exchanged only a few words before Shen Qi drove Chi Ye away and broke up with him. Chi Ye felt heartbroken, but Shen Qi had already closed the door and made up her mind to ignore him, so he had no choice but to leave. The next day, when Shen Qi woke up, she found Chi Ye in her house. With a cold expression, she reminded Chi Ye that they had already broken up and told him not to come and go freely in her home. Chi Ye was making medicine for Shen Qi, wanting to take care of her, but Shen Qi didn't appreciate it. She said hurtful words that deeply wounded Chi Ye, expressing that she only wanted a normal love and broke up because Chi Ye couldn't touch her. Chi Ye endured the pain and pushed Shen Qi down, kissing her lips until he couldn't hold on and fainted.
Shen Qi felt that this was just a form of mutual torment, and she wanted to completely separate from Chi Ye. She wanted to leave Silver Bell Island. Xiaocai accidentally overheard Shen Qi's conversation with Luo Fei and quickly informed Chi Ye of this news. Chi Ye immediately rushed over to try to persuade Shen Qi to stay, but seeing that Shen Qi refused to reconcile, he promised to leave the next day.
