Episode 9 recap: Shen Qi is prepared to sacrifice her own life to save Chi Ye.
Chi Ye packs his luggage and prepares to leave Yinling Island. There are still unfinished matters on the island, so he leaves Xiaocai behind and instructs him to keep an eye on Shen Qi's movements. This way, he can understand why Shen Qi suddenly mentioned breaking up with him. In the secret chamber, Chi Ye discovers a broken water cup on the floor, which, combined with Shen Qi's odd behavior, leads him to speculate that she has been in the secret chamber and has remembered everything.
Xiaocai deliberately brings gifts to distribute to the residents of the island and informs them of Chi Ye's departure. Shen Qi feels reluctant when she hears the news. When she learns that she is not included in those gifts, she becomes even more downcast. Ruo Fei plans to leave Yinling Island with her luggage, but Qiyang catches up to her. He learns that she came here just to find some peace and chooses to leave on her own. He quickly pulls Ruo Fei's luggage back.
Shen Qi stands by the river and talks to the air, hoping that Chi Ye will forgive her. In her view, going back to the beginning is the best arrangement. Suddenly, Chi Ye appears behind her and overhears her words. He directly asks Shen Qi if she has been in the secret chamber and remembers everything. With tears streaming down her face, Shen Qi admits it. She knows why they are both still alive and understands the dangers of the Lingyi Clan's secret technique, which is why she chose to break up with Chi Ye.
Shen Qi doesn't confess the real reason to Chi Ye. She simply firmly states that she no longer loves him and insists on breaking up. Upon hearing these words, Chi Ye's heart cleared of its gloom. He found an excuse of "upgrading the irrigation system on the island" to stay in Shen Qi's garden and urged her to work, hoping to find an opportunity to make contact. However, Shen Qi didn't give him that chance.
Using a measuring tape as an excuse, Chi Ye pulled Shen Qi closer, creating an ambiguous atmosphere. But just as things were getting heated, Shen Qi decisively stepped back and told Chi Ye not to come tomorrow, then she ran out to buy tools. That night, Xiaocai suddenly rushed in, saying that something happened to Chi Ye. Worried, Shen Qi didn't think twice and immediately followed Xiaocai out. However, when they arrived at Chi Ye's house, he was nowhere to be found.
Suddenly, Chi Ye appeared and approached Shen Qi. He kissed her lips, and his chest was in immense pain, indicating that their hearts still held feelings for each other. Chi Ye injured his hand while changing a light bulb, and this time his wound couldn't heal on its own. Shen Qi immediately remembered what the clan leader had said and realized that Chi Ye had suffered a backlash due to the contract they formed and their renewed love. She knew the solution was to remove the nail from Chi Ye's chest with her own life.
Shen Qi had already made up her mind to sacrifice herself to save Chi Ye. But before that, she wanted to fulfill their wedding ceremony, so that they would have no regrets.
