Episode 1 recap: Xue Dong Feng discovered that his beloved had become a stepmother.
Ji Lian Yun is the sixth stepmother of the governor. She learned that the fifth stepmother, Fang Fei, took advantage of the governor's marriage to meet her lover, so she reported this to the governor and led him to catch them in the act. The governor was unhappy to find out he was being cuckolded and slapped Ji Lian Yun, telling her not to gossip. However, deep down, he wanted to catch them red-handed, so he took a handgun and went upstairs, pointing it at the head of the blissful Fang Fei to make her come to her senses.
The news of the death of wealthy businessman Xue Zhao Kun made the headlines in the newspapers, and people everywhere were discussing the matter. Ji Lian Yun knelt in front of the mourning hall, wondering which part went wrong and why Fang Fei was unharmed while Xue Zhao Kun died. Xue Dong Feng received the news of Xue Zhao Kun's death and rushed back immediately. He believed that Xue Zhao Kun died because he was too wealthy, so he didn't want his subordinates to prepare paper money for him. Instead, he went straight to the mourning hall.
Xue Dong Feng heard that Xue Zhao Kun's most recent wife, the sixth stepmother, was young and beautiful, clearly a seductress. He was convinced that only money-loving women would marry someone like Xue Zhao Kun, but he believed such women deserved to die. Therefore, as soon as he entered the mourning hall, he tried to strangle Ji Lian Yun until he heard a familiar voice and realized it was his beloved. He couldn't accept that she was his father's sixth stepmother and wanted to know why they broke up.
Ji Lian Yun openly admitted that she liked Xue Zhao Kun and, even more so, his money. She asked Xue Dong Feng to forget the past, as it would be better for both of them. However, Xue Dong Feng wanted her to explain clearly. She then confessed that if Xue Dong Feng hadn't deceived her years ago by pretending to be a poor student, she would have married him instead. She even pointed Xue Dong Feng's gun at her own chest.
