Episode 11 recap: Director Wang Tao investigates the truth behind the technological achievements and inventions. Luo Xiang Qian saves the exploration team.
Wu Qiang comes over to persuade Luo Xiang Qian not to be upset and to take care of his health. After venting his frustrations, Luo Xiang Qian feels much better. Wu Qiang says he will report the true situation to the authorities, but Luo Xiang Qian stops him, saying that it doesn't matter if he gets credit for the invention as long as the experiment is successful. He also points out that if they have a falling out with Sha Kai, it will affect the overall progress of road construction. Wu Qiang admires Luo Xiang Qian's broad-mindedness. However, Wu Qiang still goes to the headquarters alone and reports the true situation and the dissatisfaction of the soldiers to Captain Ma. The authorities then send Director Wang Tao to investigate. Director Wang Tao arrives at the platoon and interviews most of the officers and soldiers. He learns that Luo Xiang Qian led the Communist Party members in the platoon to successfully conduct the experiments after numerous failures.
Director Wang Tao holds a meeting with the platoon's officers and reports the investigation results to them. He says he will report to Director Zhao and take serious actions against Sha Kai for his infringement and against Sha Menghai for his corrupt practices. After hearing Director Wang's words, Luo Xiang Qian finally feels relieved, and Wu Qiang and Zhang Biao also breathe a sigh of relief.
Sha Kai meets Director Wang alone and openly criticizes Luo Xiang Qian. Director Wang Tao, who is already well-prepared, bluntly points out Sha Kai's mistakes and indirectly warns him that technical work is also a matter of integrity, and he shouldn't risk losing his job in the end. Sha Kai feels uneasy after hearing this and, when he sees Zhang Biao, he is at a loss and seeks his advice.
When escorting Director Wang Tao back to the headquarters, Luo Xiang Qian tells him that as long as the experiments are successful and contribute to the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway, it is the best outcome. As for the handling of Sha Menghai and Sha Kai, he suggests not taking any action. He believes that if they are punished, it will undermine the enthusiasm of a group of technical personnel. He understands that Sha Kai, who has just graduated from school, is eager to achieve results, and Sha Menghai, as a technical expert from the old government, has his own thoughts.
Director Wang Tao admires Luo Xiang Qian's broad-mindedness and magnanimity. After returning, he reports to Director Zhao, who is pleased with Luo Xiang Qian's progress and respects his opinion. Director Zhao decides not to take any action against Sha Menghai and Sha Kai.
Sha Kai hums a tune happily and pours a glass of water for Zhang Biao when he enters the room. Zhang Biao asks why he is so happy, and Sha Kai says it was a false alarm and that Director Zhao didn't punish him and his uncle regarding the technical restaurant matter. He believes the incident has passed.
Zhang Biao tells him that all of this was the result of Luo Xiang Qian's plea to the higher authorities. Sha Kai is skeptical and doesn't believe that Luo Xiang Qian has been so kind to him.
Luo Xiang Qian received a phone call from Captain Ma, who praised him and informed him that the layered soil compaction method would be promoted on a larger scale. Luo Xiang Qian and Wu Qiang were thrilled to hear this news because it meant that the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway would really be opened ahead of schedule.
Upon receiving the report, the Kuomintang special envoy, Li Long, hastily brought a group of bandits to ambush the exploration team. He was determined to eliminate the team and destroy their research data. The spies launched a sudden attack on the exploration team, and an entire squad sacrificed themselves to protect the team members. Ma Bin and Zheng Yan were originally going to get medicine for Tian Jian, but when they heard gunshots on their way back, they saw the bandits' ambush and hurriedly went to find nearby troops.
Captain Ma ordered the vanguard company closest to the exploration team to quickly set off and rescue them. Upon receiving the order, Luo Xiang Qian immediately led his team and set off. To buy some time, Ye Lan, along with the spies, wandered around in the forest, claiming to be searching for her hidden information while Tian Jian was captured and tied to a tree by Li Long.
Luo Xiang Qian and his team arrived in time and quickly drove away the spies, rescuing Ye Lan and Tian Jian. Tian Jian was rushed to the hospital for treatment, and Ye Lan expressed her gratitude to Luo Xiang Qian, still shaken by the incident. She mourned the loss of the squad of soldiers who sacrificed themselves for them.
Luo Xiang Qian also felt a deep sadness for the sacrifice of his comrades, but he comforted Ye Lan, saying that the soldiers sacrificed themselves to protect them and contribute to the early opening of the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway. Their sacrifice was honorable. When Sha Kai heard about the attack on Ye Lan, he hurriedly went to the hospital to visit her. He also told Ye Lan about his invention of the layered soil compaction method, which made her happy to see his progress.
After this battle, the higher-ups ordered an immediate and thorough operation to wipe out the nearby bandits and remnants of the Kuomintang armed forces.
