Episode 7 recap: Ye Lan tried to find a way to resolve the conflict with the Sun family. Sha Kai's decision to call for a return to work caused dissatisfaction among the soldiers.
Walking alone on a rugged mountain road, Lao Wu saw two soldiers approaching with guns ahead and was frightened, so he ran away. The two soldiers immediately chased after him, and Lao Wu was eventually captured. Ye Lan instructed Ma Bin and Zheng Yan to guard Tian Jian and borrowed money from Zheng Yan to go to the town. Ye Lan arrived at the coffin shop and bought two high-quality coffins, arranging for them to be delivered to the village.
However, Ma Bin and Zheng Yan were captured by the Sun family members when they went to see Tian Jian. Just when things were getting out of hand, Ye Lan and the village chief arrived. The village chief ordered the public security soldiers to bring Lao Wu up. It turned out that Lao Wu was a spy for the Kuomintang. After the liberation, he was sent from Chongqing to the village on a mission and had been undercover there. He deliberately instigated the villagers to obstruct the work of the exploration team, attempting to sabotage the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway.

Luo Xiang Qian excitedly reported this inspiring news to everyone, encouraging them to work even harder. Sha Kai, however, looked down on it. Sha Kai claimed to have diarrhea and wanted to see a doctor. Luo Xiang Qian initially didn't want to approve it, but Wu Qiang advised him not to be too strict with Sha Kai's request.
Sha Kai went to the town's post and telecommunications office to call his uncle, Sha Menghai, to inquire about Ye Lan's situation. However, Sha Menghai said he didn't know either and urged Sha Kai not to act recklessly. The railway construction site along the line was currently very unsafe, with enemy agents and bandits potentially causing damage at any time.
Sha Kai promised to stay well at the construction site. He approached Luo Xiang Qian to request time off, claiming that he had previously taken sick leave. This infuriated Luo Xiang Qian because the construction site was currently in a critical state, with everyone racing against time to meet deadlines, except for Sha Kai, who was careless. Sha Kai reluctantly inspected the subgrade, but the inspection results were unacceptable to the soldiers. He solemnly declared that the section of subgrade was not up to standard and needed to be excavated and redone. Luo Xiang Qian was greatly troubled by this because redoing the entire subgrade would require a significant amount of work. After discussions among the three leaders of the Vanguard Company, although reluctant, they decided to follow Sha Kai's suggestion in order to ensure the quality of the project and decided to redo the work.
After arranging everything, Sha Kai casually returned to Wang Shuxian's house for dinner, proudly telling her that if he didn't sign the approval, their work wouldn't count. After a night of hard work by the entire company, the subgrade reconstruction was completed. Luo Xiang Qian couldn't hold back anymore and confronted Sha Kai in anger, but Sha Kai remained indifferent and showed no empathy. Frustrated, Luo Xiang Qian sought out Wu Qiang and asked him to call Captain Ma and have Sha Kai removed. Wu Qiang went to talk to Sha Kai and cautioned him against using personal revenge as motivation, as it would change the nature of the situation.
If all else failed, they would have to request another engineer from the bureau to conduct a reinspection. Sha Kai felt some relief after hearing this. Sha Kai's attitude infuriated the soldiers of the Vanguard Company. Er Ganzi and his comrades went to the doorstep of Wang Shuxian's house, where Sha Kai lived, and pasted a "happiness" character, attracting the attention of the villagers.
Sha Kai angrily went to find Wu Qiang. Wu Qiang and Luo Xiang Qian believed that it was inappropriate to involve Wang Shuxian in the situation, so they specially brought the soldier who made the mistake to apologize to her. They also arranged a new accommodation for Sha Kai. Zhang Biao, who saw that the house originally built for the company commander and the instructor had been given to himself and Sha Kai, felt guilty and uncomfortable. Moreover, Sha Kai's cleanliness habits and way of life were also difficult for Zhang Biao to adapt to.
Luo Xiang Qian urged him to find a way to unite with Sha Kai, no matter what.
