Episode 4 recap: Jointly capturing the real culprit with a calculated plan.
Mei Shi Qi, not admitting that she likes Leng Mo Yan, was about to be kissed by Leng Mo Yan. This made Mei Shi Qi's heart beat faster. Mei Shi Qi happily prepared to accept Leng Mo Yan's kiss, but was awakened by Zhen Shi San's call. She then realized it was all just a dream.Zhen Shi San told Mei Shi Qi some good news, that before Consort Chen's death, she sent a letter through Xiao Cui to her parents, but it was never delivered. Mei Shi Qi learned the secret of the letter and decided to go to Consort Chen's sleeping quarters to find the letter and uncover the truth. Mei Shi Qi searched the sleeping quarters and finally found the letter, but unexpectedly, Leng Mo Yan appeared.
Leng Mo Yan and Mei Shi Qi fought over the letter in the sleeping quarters. Mei Shi Qi was defeated by Leng Mo Yan. Leng Mo Yan threatened to ruin Mei Shi Qi's reputation and started to undress her, but at that moment, Shi Jian and his men barged in.
Mei Shi Qi realized that her appearance had been seen by the officials from the Inspection Bureau and she could only threaten them not to reveal it. Leng Mo Yan also didn't want others to know about his intimate actions with Mei Shi Qi, so they both threatened their subordinates to keep silent. After the confrontation, Leng Mo Yan and Mei Shi Qi were about to read the letter when Chen Bao suddenly appeared, snatched the letter, and burned it.
Although Chen Bao burned the letter, he was caught by Leng Mo Yan and subjected to severe torture to extract a confession. Chen Bao denied killing Consort Chen and threatened to report Leng Mo Yan to Emperor Yu. At that moment, Mei Shi Qi burst into the prison of the Inspection Bureau, claiming that Consort Chen's death was a suicide, not a murder.
After Mei Shi Qi explained the cause of Consort Chen's death, Chen Bao loudly demanded that Leng Mo Yan release him, while Mei Shi Qi revealed the details of how Chen Bao murdered Consort Chen. Chen Bao used evidence of Consort Chen's father's corruption to blackmail her into killing Emperor Yu. However, Consort Chen couldn't bring herself to harm Emperor Yu, so she chose to commit suicide and wrote down the whole truth before her death.
Mei Shi Qi presented the letter, stating that the Secret Guard Bureau had the ability to restore the letter. Mei Shi Qi had the letter as evidence, while Leng Mo Yan revealed that Chen Bao had learned Jing Wang's martial arts techniques and attempted to assassinate Jing Wang. This explained the sword injury on Jing Wang's shoulder and matched the wound on Chen Bao's shoulder caused by Mei Shi Qi's hidden weapon, providing sufficient evidence that Chen Bao was the murderer.
Believing the authenticity of the letter, Chen Bao confessed to fabricating the crime scene but refused to disclose the mastermind behind it. He still intended to frame Jing Wang. Under Leng Mo Yan's threat, Chen Bao pretended to reveal the mastermind, luring Leng Mo Yan closer and then ingested poison to commit suicide.
