Episode 16 recap: Yuan Ming Yu revealed the truth to the Crown Prince under pressure.
Ye Shao brought fake death medicine, and Sun Xiang, in a rush, grabbed it to drink. Yuan Ming Yu stopped her and asked her to think it through. Sun Xiang suggested opening a women's school as a way to help Yuan Ming Yu, and she also asked for Yuan Ming Yu's assistance in taking care of her parents and requested that the Emperor not make things too difficult for them. Sun Xiang mentioned that although she would have to hide her identity after faking her death, it would still be a good outcome if she could return to her previous days of freedom. After finishing speaking, she immediately drank the medicine.
After taking this fake death medicine, a person would appear lifeless within an hour, just like a real dead person. Yuan Ming Yu went to report to the Emperor, stating that Sun Xiang felt guilty for causing discord between the Emperor and the Princess, and thus took the poison out of remorse. The Emperor sighed, remarking that the people from the lower class had no insight. Since she had died, he decided to bury her as a concubine.
After Yuan Ming Yu left, the Emperor became suspicious and sent someone to investigate if Sun Xiang had truly died, as her death was too sudden. The Crown Prince also had suspicions, so he personally went to Sun Xiang's coffin and ordered it to be opened. Inside, they found it empty, and the Crown Prince understood that it must have been the work of Yuan Ming Yu.
Yuan Ming Yu and Ye Shao bid farewell to Sun Xiang, instructing her to take care of herself in the future. After saying their goodbyes, Sun Xiang left the Princess's residence. The Emperor issued a decree for Sun Xiang and the Crown Prince to proceed with the marriage, reasoning that the Crown Prince liked Sun Xiang and regardless of whether she was a person or a ghost, he would marry her. Yuan Ming Yu was very angry but didn't know what to do. Ye Shao reminded her that they should take action in advance and strike first.
The Crown Prince was feeling triumphant, curious to see how Yuan Ming Yu would handle the situation. Suddenly, he was overwhelmed by a fragrance and lost consciousness. When he woke up, he found himself in the dungeon, and Yuan Ming Yu was dead in front of him. He looked up and saw the already deceased groom, which terrified him. The groom informed him that Yuan Ming Yu had received her just punishment, and now it was his turn. If he wrote down the sequence of events that led to his own demise, it would allow him to seek justice in the underworld. Only then would he be spared.
The Crown Prince hastily wrote down the entire process in detail. Afterwards, he was knocked unconscious again. Yuan Ming Yu stood up, and the groom removed his mask, revealing that he was actually Ye Shao in disguise. The two of them looked at each other and smiled upon receiving the Crown Prince's written confession.
