Episode 21 recap: Ye Shao helped Mingyu force the palace.
The Crown Prince told the Emperor that it wouldn't be him who killed him, but his beloved daughter. He claimed that it was a righteous act to eliminate his own family. The Crown Prince also questioned the Emperor in astonishment, asking what he had done to Mingyu. He angrily pointed out that he was not inferior to Mingyu in any way since childhood, yet the throne was being passed on to her, which he refused to accept.
The Emperor stated that someone who seeks revenge for the slightest grievance, even against his own sister, is not fit to be an emperor. The Crown Prince declared that he would secure the throne today. Although the Emperor had established the empire, he favored Mingyu and turned a blind eye to the fact that Ye Shao was a prince from the previous dynasty. The Crown Prince believed the Emperor's judgment was clouded and that he should have abdicated in favor of the Crown Prince long ago.
The Crown Prince threatened to capture Mingyu and her father if they dared to come. Mingyu arrived with Sun Xiang and informed the Emperor that the Crown Prince's plan would not succeed. Ye Shao was on his way with the Imperial Army. Mingyu also revealed that she had entrusted the fish token to Ye Shao, expressing her trust in him. Ye Shao arrived with the Imperial Army, and all of the Crown Prince's subordinates were eliminated. Ye Shao recounted the Emperor's acts of killing the previous dynasty and his own father and mother, emphasizing that he would now reclaim what rightfully belonged to him.
Upon hearing this, Mingyu looked at Ye Shao in confusion, not understanding why he had changed his mind. Ye Shao advised Mingyu to let go of her illusions and acknowledged that only he could become the emperor. He ordered his men to take them away. As Mingyu turned back to look, she noticed a gesture from Ye Shao, which alleviated her doubts.
