Episode 4 recap: Ye Shao secretly helped Yuan Ming Yu organize an auction.
Upon learning that Yuan Ming Yu wanted to hold an auction to raise funds for disaster relief, Ye Shao thought to himself that Yuan Ming Yu was truly turning over a new leaf. He decided to assist her in secret, thinking that if she wasn't genuinely helping with the disaster relief, he could intervene later. Yuan Ming Yu informed Jin Lan about the plan to hold an auction but warned her not to let the imperial guard, Ye Shao, know about it. Ye Shao had already begun to suspect her true identity as a princess, and she didn't want him to discover that she was selling items from the princess's residence.
Ye Shao received a flying knife message from his uncle, urging him to find the "Fish Token" as soon as possible to fulfill their mission of restoring the country. The Prince Consort was jealous and suspicious, so Ye Shao deliberately covered his face with soot and brought a bowl of lotus seed soup to Yuan Ming Yu. However, Yuan Ming Yu casually took it and drank it without showing much gratitude, which further fueled the Prince Consort's resentment towards her.
Yuan Ming Yu entrusted the pawnshop owner to organize the auction, and the Crown Prince and the Prince Consort went to attend. The Prince Consort had already conspired with the Crown Prince, and they wanted to see if there was anything suspicious about this auction. The pawnshop owner presented a jade ruyi that the Emperor had bestowed upon Yuan Ming Yu. Worried that someone else might bid for it, the Crown Prince urged the Prince Consort to quickly make an offer.
The Prince Consort initially bid one thousand taels, but a bearded man immediately followed with the same bid. Eventually, when the Prince Consort raised the bid to three thousand taels, the bearded man remained silent. The Prince Consort won the jade ruyi with a bid of three thousand taels, but the Crown Prince instructed him to deliver it to the princess's residence to test Yuan Ming Yu's reaction. On the way, the Prince Consort encountered the bearded man who had been challenging him at the auction. Overcome with anger, the Prince Consort tried to confront him but ended up being defeated by the bearded man's punches and kicks.
Yuan Ming Yu had been observing from the shadows the whole time and recognized the bearded man. She followed him all the way to the princess's residence and caught sight of Ye Shao changing clothes. Yuan Ming Yu realized that the bearded man was none other than Ye Shao in disguise. When the Prince Consort arrived to deliver the jade ruyi to Yuan Ming Yu and saw her in such close proximity to Ye Shao, he couldn't help but feel jealous. Once again, the Prince Consort demanded that Yuan Ming Yu expel Ye Shao from the palace chambers, but she firmly stated that Ye Shao was her person and must stay there.
