Episode 7 recap: The Crown Prince secretly sabotaged the disaster relief efforts.
While Ye Shao was surprised to receive a note from his uncle, the owner of a pastry shop on the roadside stopped them and said he saw the genuine affection between the princess and Ye Shao, and he was willing to give them a pastry as a blessing for their happiness. Ye Shao declined the pastry, explaining that he and the princess were not what the shop owner believed them to be, so he couldn't accept the gift.
Yuan Ming Yu asked Jin Lan to pay for the pastries, thanking the owner for his blessing, but she couldn't accept something for free. Ye Shao tried to stop them, saying that the pastries were too crude and not worthy of the princess's nobility. He continued until Yuan Ming Yu showed signs of anger, at which point Ye Shao fell silent.
Ye Shao went to see his uncle, who pressed him for information about the fish token investigation. Ye Shao informed him that it was inside Yuan Ming Yu's sacrificial robe. His uncle asked why he didn't retrieve it immediately, and Ye Shao explained that he didn't want to harm Yuan Ming Yu. His uncle slapped him hard and admonished him not to forget the hatred of their country's destruction.
In the evening, Yuan Ming Yu was in a good mood and arranged a few small dishes, including the red bean pastries, saying that it was a symbol of their love and they should celebrate. However, Ye Shao mustered the courage to tell Yuan Ming Yu that he didn't actually like her and everything he had done before was merely his duty.
Angered by his words, Yuan Ming Yu left in a huff. The disaster relief work proceeded smoothly, but the Crown Prince and the Prince Consort became even more resentful. They arranged for their subordinates to secretly sabotage the relief efforts, planning to ignite the granary. Sun Xiang saw their actions and intervened, showing the confiscated incendiary materials to Yuan Ming Yu and Ye Shao. Yuan Ming Yu expressed her gratitude, but Sun Xiang stated that she was only helping the victims.
Yuan Ming Yu decided to investigate the matter. Despite Ye Shao's rejection, she still believed in him.
