Episode 1 recap: Li Mengjue and Xie Jingshu are engaged by a contract.

Li Mengjue (played by Fan Zhen), a scout of the Soul-Reaping Sect, infiltrates the Hua Chao Building to investigate the Tian Shu case. Xie Jingshu (played by Huang Xin), disguised as a wealthy merchant, conceals his true identity as the Duke of Dingbei. Li Mengjue wakes up from a nightmare and hears the call of a cuckoo, receiving orders to take action. At the same time, Xie Jingshu also receives orders to go to the bamboo forest to seize a map and kill someone.

One after the other, they find the person with the hidden map. Xie Jingshu is a step behind and hears that it was a woman who took the map, so he chases after her. Xie Jingshu sees a woman on the other side and suspects that she is the one who took the map. Without checking the surroundings, when he injures the woman, he discovers that there are accomplices nearby. Li Mengjue sees her comrade injured and quickly covers for her, allowing her to leave the scene.

Xie Jingshu senses something is amiss when he sees a dead person next to him holding a plum blossom. It reminds him of an incident that happened a month ago. Xie Jingshu pretended to be a wealthy merchant and arranged to meet the courtesan Bai Rui in the brothel. However, at that moment, Li Mengjue was being chased by someone. Just as Bai Rui was about to serve tea to Xie Jingshu, they were interrupted by Jing Yan, who had just arrived. Xie Jingshu told Jing Yan that the real guest had arrived and asked him to leave.

Xie Jingshu saved Li Mengjue, and both of them were stunned for a moment. Li Mengjue turned and left. Xie Jingshu hesitated to speak but then told Li Mengjue that this time he would be the one to help her. And so, they made a contract and became engaged, pledging to uphold their commitment for a hundred days, after which they would go their separate ways.
