Episode 3 recap: Wu Geng, transformed into a dog, woke up.
Wu Geng couldn't understand what he had done wrong. His mother wanted to kill him with her own hands, but Heart's Moon Fox told Wu Geng not to be afraid and promised to always be by his side. Heart's Moon Fox told Xin Yue Kui that the Protoss had committed many injustices and that one day their domain would be broken. She hoped that Xin Yue Kui would turn back before it was too late.
Wu Geng died in his mother's arms, and shortly after, Heart's Moon Fox self-immolated in front of Xin Yue Kui. Bai Cai searched half the city before finding the unconscious dog under the Star-Picking Tower, and she took him home. In a dream, Wu Geng saw his mother, Heart's Moon Fox, who told him that her Protoss power had been depleted and she could only say goodbye to him through dreams. Heart's Moon Fox told Wu Geng that she was originally a Protoss priestess who could foresee future changes. Before Wu Geng was born, she predicted the calamity that was happening now. She had extracted a trace of Wu Geng's Protoss power and left it in the mortal world to help him overcome the current crisis.
Now, Wu Geng's Protoss power has returned to his body, making him whole again. She was publicly assassinated by Bai Cai, in order to make Wu Geng disappear in the eyes of the world. In the future, there would be no Prince Wu Geng, only a commoner named A Dog. Wu Geng would also experience a new life through this identity and find her own path.
The next day, Wu Geng, transformed into a dog, woke up. Although she couldn't accept her current identity, she remembered her parents' dying wish for her to live well. Wu Geng had no choice but to accept the identity of A Dog and continue living to fulfill her parents' wishes. Bai Cai was delighted to discover that A Dog could speak.
Bai Cai also brought A Dog's favorite persimmon cake for him to eat, but Wu Geng threw it away in disgust, which made Bai Cai very angry. Now that Xin Wang was dead, Wu Geng wanted to confront the Protoss, which made Bai Cai mock him for overestimating his abilities. When Bai Cai saw that Wu Geng wanted to go out, she hit him to prevent him from leaving due to his illness.
Bai Cai and the other children around believed that A Dog was mentally ill. Although Wu Geng believed that she was Prince Wu Geng, they didn't believe her at all. In the end, under Bai Cai's torment, Wu Geng could only admit that she was indeed A Dog.
Wu Geng took the opportunity to escape while Bai Cai was asleep. He secretly made his way to the city gate and witnessed the body of Xin Wang, who had defected to the enemy nation, being publicly whipped. He saw Prince Zhou Qiao, who had returned to the enemy nation, being whipped alongside his father as a warning to the people. Wu Geng swore to avenge this humiliation with even greater vengeance.
The soldiers loyal to Xin Wang were unwilling to see him subjected to such humiliation. Taking advantage of the situation, Wu Geng joined them and personally burned Xin Wang's body, giving his father a final farewell. General An Jiang Jun ordered his soldiers to escort Wu Geng out and instructed him to live well. With the protection of the guards, Wu Geng successfully left with An Jiang Jun.
Wu Geng brought An Jiang Jun to Bai Cai's house and told him that from this day forward, he would only be known as A Dog, urging him not to reveal his true identity. Wu Geng explained to An Jiang Jun that it was due to his mother's clever deception at the time of his birth that he was able to survive. He initially wanted to take An Jiang Jun to a clinic for treatment, but An Jiang Jun didn't want to expose their whereabouts. Thus, Wu Geng had to search for medicine in their residence. At that moment, Bai Cai handed Wu Geng the medicinal herbs she had collected, as she had already discovered his intention to seek revenge against Xin Wang and chose not to inquire about his actions outside.
A Protoss envoy arrived to deliver a message, demanding that the enemy nation pay a tribute of one thousand boxes of bloodstone each month. Due to the losses suffered in the war, the Protoss envoy requested that the enemy nation modify its laws to include unmarried and childless men and women in the conscription. To address the shortage of agricultural labor, the Protoss envoy also brought high-quality Protoss seeds for the enemy nation to cultivate as a labor force.
Zhou Qiao brought a maid to a secret room and handed her over to Gui Mu as a source of sustenance, allowing Gui Mu to recover from the injuries sustained in the war. Upon seeing a dog at the city gate with a resemblance to Wu Geng, Zhou Qiao became suspicious and ordered a thorough search for anyone resembling Wu Geng within the city.
Bai Cai took Wu Geng out to fish and noticed that Wu Geng had no idea how to fish. On the way back, she deliberately trapped Wu Geng and questioned his identity. Wu Geng explained that he was just A Dog and revealed that after being injured, he started to remember things from his past and learned about his childhood experiences.
