Episode 4 recap: Wu Geng and Bai Cai were caught and forced to work in a mine.

Wu Geng brought An Jiang Jun back to Bai Cai's grass hut for treatment. Bai Cai suspected Wu Geng's identity and set a trap to interrogate him. Wu Geng evaded the questioning by pretending to have amnesia. At night, Bai Cai suffered from a sudden illness and fainted. Wu Geng quickly carried Bai Cai on his back and rushed to the city to seek medical help.

Wu Geng brought Bai Cai to a medical clinic. Bai Cai adamantly refused to waste money on treatment. They argued, but just as they were about to leave, the local militia recruited laborers for the mine outside the clinic. In a hurry, they slipped away. However, they were soon discovered by the militia. Bai Cai picked up a jade pendant that had fallen from Wu Geng and realized it belonged to Xin Wang. She guessed that Ah Gou had gone to collect Xin Wang's body for the pendant. Bai Cai believed that the pendant could provide a good life for the orphans in her home for several years and no longer doubted Ah Gou's identity.

Wu Geng demanded the return of the pendant, but Bai Cai refused, citing that he had brought back a wounded person and needed money for food and medicine. Wu Geng had to temporarily tolerate it for the sake of An Jiang Jun. In order to help An Jiang Jun recover quickly, Bai Cai specially cooked fish soup for him. Although Wu Geng was disgusted by the porridge prepared by Bai Cai, he realized that as a commoner named Ah Gou, he had no choice but to eat it hungrily.

Bai Cai felt unwell and had a dream in the middle of the night about the first encounter with Ah Gou. When Bai Cai was young, she suffered from hunger and cold. Ah Gou appeared and gave her food. From then on, they relied on each other for survival. When Wu Geng woke up, he found Bai Cai in a dazed state. The orphans in the house told him that in the past, it was Ah Gou who had cured Bai Cai when her old illness flared up. Wu Geng didn't understand how to treat the illness and initially planned to find medicine for Bai Cai, but she couldn't hold on and fainted.

In a panic, Wu Geng took Bai Cai to the city to find a medical clinic for her treatment. The doctor at the clinic said that treating Bai Cai's illness would require a lot of money. When Bai Cai woke up and learned about it, she insisted that she didn't need the doctor's treatment. Bai Cai mentioned that Ah Gou used to help her with her illness, but the current Ah Gou was not the same as before. Wu Geng had no choice but to explain that he had forgotten about the past.

On the street, the authorities were capturing laborers to work in the mines. Wu Geng and Bai Cai hurriedly left the clinic but were intercepted by the authorities along the way. Wu Geng learned that the laws had been modified by the King, and now, apart from the elderly, weak, sick, and disabled, all able-bodied citizens had to go to the mines. Wu Geng fought against the authorities and successfully drove them away.

Seeing Wu Geng's skill, Bai Cai understood that he was truly not the same Ah Gou as before.

Wu Geng and Bai Cai encountered a white tiger on their way back home. Wu Geng told Bai Cai to run away while he dealt with the tiger alone. Bai Cai didn't want to leave Wu Geng behind and turned back to help. She arrived just in time to see the tiger attacking Wu Geng.

It turned out that the white tiger was Bai Cai's mount, Zha Zha. Zha Zha saw that Wu Geng had good skills, so he ordered his soldiers to capture the two of them. An Jiang Jun secretly witnessed Wu Geng and Bai Cai's capture and wanted to rescue them, but Wu Geng signaled him not to act rashly and left a letter for An Jiang Jun, asking him to be patient for now.

The soldiers who were escorting Wu Geng and the others were attracted to Bai Cai's beauty. Bai Cai noticed their intentions and deliberately leaned on Wu Geng, making it appear as if they were a couple. Wu Geng understood Bai Cai's plan and threatened the soldiers not to have any ideas about his wife, or else he would use force against them.

On the road, Wu Geng and Bai Cai encountered the slave Xiao Shang and Shi Tou. Through their conversation, Wu Geng learned that they were heading to the North Mountain Mine, where anyone who entered would only see daylight again in death. After arriving at the mine with a group of people, Chen Jing, accompanied by his son Zha Zha, arrived as well. Chen Jing instructed the gathered people to work hard and mine the Bloodstones for the Protoss.

Some of the people refused to be slaves and work in the mines, and they were immediately killed by the soldiers. Faced with this threat, the captured people could only endure. All the slaves entering the mine had to bear the mark of a slave. Wu Geng didn't want to have the mark and publicly questioned the people if they were willing to be slaves of the Protoss for a lifetime. This statement angered the soldiers present, and a fight broke out between the two sides. Bai Cai's illness flared up, and Wu Geng was also captured due to his concern for her. As a result, they both received the slave mark.

As soon as Wu Geng and the others arrived at the mine, they were immediately forced to work. The officials at the mine harassed Bai Cai, but Wu Geng publicly declared that Bai Cai was his wife. Although the official was displeased, he had to let Bai Cai go to avoid causing unrest. Wu Geng was worried that Bai Cai, who was suffering from her illness, wouldn't be able to hold on, so he tried to request food for everyone. However, the official was unhappy with Wu Geng's attitude, resulting in a reduction in the food rations for the slaves. Wu Geng used force to change the situation but had to temporarily endure it.

When the bell rang for the slaves' mealtime, everyone rushed forward to grab food. Bai Cai and Shi Tou, among others, managed to grab some food, but the officials deliberately knocked it out of their hands.
