Episode 4 recap: Li Tian Shun and Huang He Xiang got married separately.
When Wang Tong Ren heard that Li Tian Shun had been expelled from the palace, he spread the word on the old street that the reason Li Tian Shun was kicked out was because he had stolen the Emperor's precious treasure. Two thieves overheard Wang Tong Ren's words and decided to target the Li family.
Unable to convince his father, Li Tian Shun decided to elope with Huang He Xiang. Huang He Xiang left a note for her aunt and ran away with Li Tian Shun. But halfway through their escape, she suddenly stopped. Huang He Xiang asked Li Tian Shun what would happen if the Emperor discovered their elopement. Li Tian Shun thought for a moment and told her that they would certainly be executed. In order to protect her aunt from trouble, Huang He Xiang decided to go back.
The thieves went to Li Yun Mian's house to steal, but Li Yun Mian caught them on the spot. There was a commotion outside, but there was no sound coming from Li Tian Shun's house. The elderly couple felt that something was amiss and went inside to check, only to find that Li Tian Shun was not home. At that moment, Aunt Ding ran over and showed them Huang He Xiang's note. The elderly couple then learned that their son had already eloped with Huang He Xiang.
Li Yun Mian knew that if his son and Huang He Xiang eloped, the whole family would suffer. So he asked his wife to go back to her parents' house and hide for a few days. Li Ma wanted her husband to go with her, but Li Yun Mian believed that he owed a debt of gratitude to the Emperor and couldn't do such an unethical thing. He lamented that he was getting old and couldn't control his son anymore.
While the elderly couple were bidding farewell with sadness, Li Tian Shun suddenly appeared before them and knelt down to apologize to his father. Li Yun Mian's family and Yang Shang De's family got married at the same time, bringing joy to the old street. However, Li Tian Shun and Huang He Xiang couldn't be happy no matter what.
The reason Li Tian Shun agreed to marry Wu Xiu Zhen was because he felt that this simple-minded girl had deep feelings for him. He felt guilty for tarnishing her reputation even before they were married.
During the bridal chamber, when Wu Xiu Zhen saw Li Tian Shun hesitating to lift her veil, she decided to lift it herself. She knew about Li Tian Shun's feelings for Huang He Xiang and didn't blame him.
Yang Shang De finally achieved his wish of marrying the beauty. His mood was the opposite of Li Tian Shun's. But what made him feel frustrated was that Huang He Xiang didn't join him in the bridal chamber. She went back to her aunt's house on the wedding day. Yang Shang De didn't make things difficult for Huang He Xiang either. When Huang He Xiang suggested temporarily not consummating the marriage, he didn't rush her.
The next day, Yang Shang De went out and happened to run into Li Tian Shun. Li Tian Shun sarcastically remarked that the play on stage was performed well, but the play offstage was also performed well. Although Yang Shang De explained to him that if he didn't claim Huang He Xiang as his fiancée, the Emperor wouldn't have intervened, Li Tian Shun still refused to forgive him and even tripped him on the spot.
Yang Shang De got up from the ground, not angry but rather pleased. In his view, the feud between him and Li Tian Shun might have been resolved with that stumble. However, Li Tian Shun didn't see it that way and insisted on drawing a clear boundary between them. Li Ma felt relieved when she saw that both her son and Yang Shang De got married. But Li Yun Mian cautioned her to keep an eye on their son and not let him run to Aunt Ding's house, to avoid gossip.
As Li Tian Shun walked alone, he happened to meet Da Dao Wang Wu. He wanted to become his disciple. Da Dao Wang Wu said somewhat frustratedly that mastering martial arts was useless. The Six Gentlemen had great abilities and were involved in important tasks such as saving the country and its people, preventing the Chinese from being bullied by foreigners. But now they were imprisoned, and it was no better than a weak woman's trivial influence.
