Episode 7 recap: The Lord Baylor has been stripped of his title.
Lord Zong Renfu interrogated Lord Baylor, asking him if he had any contact with the Emperor, if he went to the foreigners' church, and if he conspired with the foreigners to save the Emperor. Lord Baylor was furious and cursed at who was badmouthing him in front of the Emperor. After his outburst, Lord Baylor wanted to leave, but Lord Zong Renfu neither yielded nor hardened his stance and said, according to the Emperor's will, he feared that Lord Baylor would have to stay in the Zong Mansion for a while longer.
Although Lord Zong Renfu was carrying out his duties on imperial orders, he didn't dare to be rough with Lord Baylor. However, Li Tian Shun didn't receive the same treatment. Li Tian Shun was taken to the office of the Deputy Commander of the Jiumen Gate, and the deputy leader didn't have a favorable impression of him. During his interrogation, without inquiring about the truth, he beat him with a paddle.
The Sixth Prince reported to the Emperor, but they couldn't determine whether Lord Baylor had colluded with the foreigners at that time. It was then that Mingyue took the initiative to come to the Emperor. The Emperor knew that Mingyue wanted to plead for Lord Baylor. When the Sixth Prince asked her for instructions on how to deal with Lord Baylor, the Emperor felt that they couldn't just let him go, so he allowed Lord Baylor to find any excuse and reflect on his actions at home.
As for Li Tian Shun, the Emperor felt that keeping him alive would still be useful. To save the life of the Sixth Prince's savior, he let him suffer a bit and released him. To save her son, Li Yun Mian specifically went to the office of the Deputy Commander of the Jiumen Gate to plead her case. The deputy leader explicitly told her that if she wanted Li Tian Shun to be released, she needed to pay 100 silver dollars.
Wu Xiu Zhen thought that Li Tian Shun was arrested because of the Fifth Prince's incident and cried at home like a tearful person. After Li Yun Mian returned, she was busy collecting money from fellow villagers to save her son when Wang Wu suddenly walked in and handed over all the money he had on him.
After Lord Baylor returned home and learned that Li Tian Shun was implicated because of him, he wanted to go and see him. However, Mingyue told him that even the Emperor didn't allow him to leave the house. Lord Baylor couldn't understand. He wanted to know who revealed the matter about Li Tian Shun carving the statue of the Virgin Mary to the Emperor. Mingyue wanted to tell him the truth, but she hesitated, and in the end, she just asked Lord Baylor to teach her how to write.
Huang Hexiang learned that Li Yun Mian was donating money to save Li Tian Shun. She decided to go to the pawnshop and pawn the ring given to her by the Emperor. On her way to the pawnshop, she ran into Wang Tong Ren. Upon learning that Huang Hexiang needed money, Wang Tong Ren approached her and offered to lend her money without interest if she kissed him. However, Huang Hexiang slapped him when he leaned in to kiss her.
Huang Hexiang arrived at the pawnshop where the shop owner was appraising the ring. Suddenly, Yang Shang De walked in. Huang Hexiang thought he would blame her, but to her surprise, Yang Shang De also pawned his ring and asked if there was anything else in her family that could be pawned.
The steward who was collecting money for Li Yun Mian felt a bit embarrassed and said he had already donated enough. Huang Hexiang wanted to negotiate with the deputy leader and see if they could take a little less, but the deputy leader explicitly told her that not even a single coin could be deducted. Mingyue went to see the Emperor and showed him the repentance letter written by Lord Baylor. She explained that Lord Baylor now spends his days reading and writing. The Emperor decided to lift Lord Baylor's house arrest, but he felt that if he didn't give Lord Baylor a charge, it would damage his own reputation. So, he decided to strip Lord Baylor of his title under the pretext of colluding with foreigners.
When Lord Baylor learned that Lao Lin was seeking donations to save Li Tian Shun, he decided to contribute some money as well. As the old steward was leaving, Lord Baylor gave him some money, but there wasn't much left in the house. He had thirty silver dollars sent to Li Tian Shun. After Mingyue returned from the palace, she informed Lord Baylor that the Emperor intended to lift his house arrest.
Lord Baylor knew it was thanks to Mingyue's efforts and happily said that he could only show gratitude to the Emperor by giving Mingyue to him. While they were talking, Lord Zong Renfu arrived with a decree, informing Lord Baylor that the Emperor intended to strip him of his title. Lord Baylor was stunned and stood there in disbelief.
