Episode 5 recap: Xu Weiwei helped Consort Lan gain favor from the emperor.
Chu Cheng explained to Xu Weiwei about the upcoming conflict between the two consorts. Wen Zixuan intentionally went to Lin Fei's chamber to do her makeup in order to get closer to Lin Lingfeng. Unfortunately, the important mineral used for grinding rouge was lost. Wen Zixuan cleverly used flower petals to make a more skin-friendly rouge flower water. Lin Fei, with the transformation of her makeup by Wen Zixuan, gained the emperor's favor and their relationship was revealed that evening. Lin Fei also became pregnant with the emperor's child.
Both Lin Fei and Wen Zixuan received favor from the emperor, and Wen Zixuan's popularity soared. Xu Weiwei felt that the emperor was easily deceived and that being attracted by rouge was truly superficial. Xu Weiwei wanted to attract Consort Lan's attention and compete against Lin Fei. Chu Cheng asked Xu Weiwei to lean on his chest and comforted her until she fell asleep. When Xu Weiwei woke up, she found herself kissing Jiang Yu. Jiang Yu asked Xu Weiwei for an explanation, but she refused and said she wanted to give Consort Lan a makeover.
Jiang Yu took Xu Weiwei to meet Consort Lan and promised to make her shine at the banquet. Xu Weiwei trimmed Consort Lan's nails, applied light makeup, and gave Jiang Yu silver as a gift while making rouge out of fresh flowers. Consort Lan successfully attracted the emperor's attention, and Lin Fei became angry and slapped Wen Zixuan. Jiang Yu was curious about how Xu Weiwei managed to cleverly capture the emperor's attention.
Xu Weiwei told Jiang Yu that the emperor still had feelings for his first love. She asked Jiang Yu if he had a first love, and Jiang Yu hugged Xu Weiwei. Dai Yao watched them with a strange smile on her face, curious to see how long they could keep smiling.
