Episode 23 recap: Yu De Kai voluntarily confessed the truth.
On Yu De Kai's birthday in 2008, he received a hidden dagger from Xia Gang, and was touched by the brotherly bond between Xia Gang and Chen Guo Guo. However, Mo Li's father discovered their secret and threatened to resolve it within three days, otherwise he would report them to the police. Both Chen Guo Guo and Xia Gang felt afraid, and Xia Gang thought Mo Li's father wouldn't really report them.
But Yu De Kai knew the situation was serious, and proposed that only one person should take responsibility. Xia Gang and Chen Guo Guo were hesitant, but Yu De Kai insisted that Xia Gang and Chen Guo Guo shouldn't bear the responsibility. Xia Gang understood Yu De Kai's intention and decided to take the blame himself. Although Chen Guo Guo refused, he had no other choice.
Mo Li misunderstood the relationship between Yu De Kai and Chen Guo Guo, and slapped Chen Guo Guo, which Xia Gang also misunderstood. In the chaos, Chen Guo Guo was killed in a collision, and Xia Gang and Yu De Kai were stabbed to death while arguing.
Mo Li prevented Yu De Kai from calling the police, and ultimately Yu De Kai smothered Xia Gang to death. Xiao En learned of the incident and cleaned up the scene.
When Xia Ze heard the news, he was enraged and knocked Yu De Kai to the ground, but was persuaded by Ma Zhuo. Yu De Kai revealed that Xiao En had called the police, and Xia Ze felt that Yu De Kai lacked genuine remorse. Officer Geng took Yu De Kai away, shocking everyone, including Yu An Duo, who had a hard time accepting it. Ma Zhuo reflected on her past choices, and Officer Geng encouraged her to move forward and not be too harsh on Chen Guo Guo.
Hu Wan comforted Xia Ze, who was worried about Ma Zhuo. The truth they were seeking seemed to be different from their expectations. Xia Ze took Ma Zhuo out for some fresh air and boxing to help her relieve stress. Ma Zhuo felt soothed, but admitted that her long-term goals had been shattered, leaving her feeling lost. They both felt that their fated connection might have come to an end, but they still cherished each other and decided to take a break to reflect.
