Episode 9 recap: Ma Zhuo rejected Xiao Zhe's confession.
Xiao Zhe revealed to Yu An Duo that his father had prejudice against Ma Zhuo, possibly due to Chen Guo Guo's old case. Yu An Duo felt this was unfair to Ma Zhuo, and Xiao Zhe also complained about his parents' excessive interference in his life.Yu An Duo advised Xiao Zhe to leave, but Xiao Zhe wanted to prove himself. Yu An Duo jokingly said Ma Zhuo should change careers to become a doctor, and teased Xiao Zhe about a birthday gift.
Ma Zhuo was happily eating braised pork, and Yu An Duo invited Xia Ze to the birthday party, but Xia Ze could not attend due to a business trip.
Yu An Duo was happy to see her father giving her mother a gift, but Mo Li's expression seemed unnatural. Xiao Zhe brought Ma Zhuo to the party, and Xiao Zhe's mother expressed her disapproval that Ma Zhuo was Chen Guo Guo's daughter. Ma Zhuo perceptively noticed the complex smile on Xiao Zhe's mother.
When Ma Zhuo was in low spirits, she encountered Xia Ze and revealed her confusion about her mother being trapped in the past events. Xia Ze mentioned that Mo Li had once been hospitalized in a psychiatric ward, and Ma Zhuo was surprised this had happened after her mother's passing. Xiao Zhe wanted to comfort Ma Zhuo because of his special feelings for her, but Ma Zhuo still had unresolved issues.
Yu An Duo was concerned about her mother's condition, while Yu De Kai seemed indifferent. There was an insurmountable gulf between Xiao Zhe and Ma Zhuo. Mo Li wanted to avoid Yu An Duo, and Yu De Kai was drinking alone by the river, seemingly reminiscing about someone.
