Episode 15 recap: The real culprit behind the Lantern Festival incident is someone else.
Pan Yue and Zhuo Lanjiang have both left. Yang Cai Wei and Bai Xiaosheng are walking on the bustling Heyang Street, reminiscing about the Lantern Festival they attended when they were young. They imitated the adults and wrote messages to their loved ones on the lanterns, hanging them on the bridge. At that time, Yang Cai Wei's wish was that anyone could be her partner except Pan Yue.
Bai Xiaosheng seems to have found someone she likes, but Zhuo Lanjiang's heart doesn't belong to her. The two of them meet San Gu Niang and Shuang Shuang on the street. Yang Cai Wei realized that the only way to have a glimmer of hope was to buy time, so she pretended to know San Gu Niang's true identity and claimed that Pan Yue was nearby and would come soon.
As Pan Yue passed by an ice drink stall and noticed San Gu Niang's absence, he connected it to the blue-purple wounds on the victim's body and quickly realized that the murder weapon was made of ice. Yang Cai Wei continued to stall, saying that San Gu Niang was no different from Gu Yong. She guessed that Gu Yong, having only one daughter, couldn't inherit his business, so he forced her to disguise herself as a man. This struck a chord with San Gu Niang, who disliked dressing as a man. She desired the things that ordinary daughters would like, but her true self became a delusion.
Gu Yong imprisoned San Gu Niang in the dungeon. After escaping, she witnessed her father mistreating Shuang Shuang and killed Qiang Shu, the abusive uncle. The only thing that Yang Cai Wei couldn't understand was why San Gu Niang took Gu Yong's water ripple token. When Yang Cai Wei asked, San Gu Niang remained silent. Yang Cai Wei provoked her while breaking free from the ropes behind her, causing a lantern to fall and start a large fire. Yang Cai Wei desperately ran forward.
In the moment when San Gu Niang captured her, Pan Yue appeared and saved her. But before Yang Cai Wei fainted, she only caught a glimpse of his clothes. When Yang Cai Wei woke up again, she was in Zhuo Lanjiang's arms, but Pan Yue was nowhere to be seen. Ling Er came and complained, saying that Yang Cai Wei had gotten into such a big incident, but Pan Yue hadn't come to visit her.
Zhuo Lanjiang decided to accompany the transportation of San Gu Niang back. Upon learning that Gu Shan had been captured, Gu Yong decided to proceed with the original plan and not let San Gu Niang leave alive. During the escort, Gu Yong arrived alone, claiming that he wanted to see his daughter. Gu Yong took out the blood sword, and San Gu Niang understood his intentions. Just as San Gu Niang was about to reveal the secret, Zhuo Lanjiang brought Gu's wife to pressure her. Seeing her pitifully insane mother, San Gu Niang finally agreed. But at that moment, Gu's wife suddenly regained her sanity and told San Gu Niang that she couldn't be controlled forever, otherwise, what difference would there be between being alive and dead? Gu's wife committed suicide by self-strangulation. In a fit of anger, San Gu Niang broke free from Gu Yong's grasp and fought him. The father and daughter stabbed each other in the throat and chest with the blood sword, and San Gu Niang died on the spot, passing the token to Yang Cai Wei before taking her last breath.
Pan Yue noticed a black shadow on the rafters and immediately pursued it, but with no results. Zhuo Lanjiang also had a new direction—the appearance of the Jinshui Gang was not a coincidence; they were connected to the Water Ripple organization.
