Episode 3 recap: Wei Ruo Lai is pleased to become Shen Tu Nan's assistant.
Wei Ruo Lai made it clear that he did not steal any confidential information from the central bank, nor did he have access to those classified documents. He derived his information from newspaper reports. However, Shen Tu Nan meticulously orchestrated a plan to have Kunpeng Industries acquire the four major private banks, which was an absolute secret. Wei Ruo Lai could not have possibly figured it out. Nevertheless, Wei Ruo Lai confidently and convincingly discussed the matter, impressing Shen Tu Nan. Wei Ruo Lai was determined to work at the central bank, and he willingly signed a confidentiality agreement, even offering his life as a guarantee. However, Shen Tu Nan once again refused him, as their motivations were different. Wei Ruo Lai had a strong desire to support his family, while Shen Tu Nan was there to wage a battle.
Wei Ruo Lai saw through the corrupt practices of the officials and pledged to follow Shen Tu Nan in changing the greedy financial industry. Shen Tu Nan then revealed that his hometown, Jiangxi, was under the control of the Communist Party, which violated a major rule in the central bank's hiring policy. This greatly disappointed Wei Ruo Lai. After careful consideration, Shen Tu Nan decided to let Wei Ruo Lai become his personal assistant. Wei Ruo Lai was overjoyed and couldn't stop smiling. He asked Shen Tu Nan to write a confirmation letter to Secretary Huang, to ensure that Shen Tu Nan wouldn't change his mind.
Shen Jin Zhen came to see Shen Tu Nan, and Shen Tu Nan wanted to introduce Wei Ruo Lai to the guests. It was then that Wei Ruo Lai learned that Shen Jin Zhen was Shen Tu Nan's sister. Shen Jin Zhen quietly advised Shen Tu Nan to think twice, as he had just met Wei Ruo Lai and didn't know much about his background. However, Shen Tu Nan had high hopes for Wei Ruo Lai. He introduced Wei Ruo Lai to the guests, including Deng Ze and Kang Shao Jie, with great enthusiasm. When Kang Shao Jie learned that Wei Ruo Lai was from Ji'an, Jiangxi, he became concerned about his potential Communist Party background. However, Shen Tu Nan vouched for Wei Ruo Lai, and Kang Shao Jie stopped asking further questions but privately reminded Shen Tu Nan to be cautious.
It was Wei Ruo Lai's first time attending such a banquet, and he was in a great mood. He drank alone and enjoyed himself, but soon got drunk. Wei Ruo Lai returned to Qibao Street very late, and A Wen accompanied him home. He brought a large bag of delicacies for A Wen, who was happy to hear that he had become Shen Tu Nan's personal assistant.
When the neighbors learned that Wei Ruo Lai had found a good job, they set off firecrackers early in the morning to celebrate. Zhou Yi and his uncle came to see Wei Ruo Lai and gave him numerous reminders and advice. His uncle even guided him and shared the secrets of establishing a foothold in the bank. Wei Ruo Lai remembered everything.
Early in the morning, Wei Ruo Lai took the tram to report to the central bank. Secretary Huang took the new employees on a tour of the bank and assigned them to different departments. Secretary Huang specifically went to Wei Ruo Lai and reminded him to move out of Qibao Street. Wei Ruo Lai was accustomed to living there, but Secretary Huang advised him not to mention that he lived in such a poor neighborhood.
Shen Tu Nan took Wei Ruo Lai to meet with the executives of the Commerce Bank and asked him to take notes.
Zhang Ming Quan, seeing the merger of the Commerce Bank by Shen Tu Nan, was unwilling and sought help from Yu Shi Qing. Yu Shi Qing was the second largest shareholder of the Commerce Bank and Xing Xia Bank was also Shen Tu Nan's target. Yu Shi Qing agreed to help, but the consequences would be borne by himself.
Shen Tu Nan took Wei Ruo Lai to meet with the executives of the Commerce Bank, assuring them that they could stay and easing their concerns. Shen Tu Nan sent Secretary Huang to the school to investigate Wei Ruo Lai's background, fearing that he had a communist background. Shen Jin Zhen found out where Gu Lun was staying. She disguised herself as a hotel cleaning lady and quietly approached Gu Lun's room. She shot and killed Gu Lun, causing chaos in the hotel. Shen Jin Zhen changed into a Western dress and escaped.
Lin Qiao Song arrived with the police upon hearing the news and conducted a detailed investigation of the scene. He discovered that Gu Lun had been drugged with a spiked soda before being killed. Lin Qiao Song deduced that the killer was a woman and, recalling the previous gunfight, concluded that it was the same person. Yu Shi Qing sent Manager Wang from Xing Xia Bank to confront Zhang Ming Quan and Shen Tu Nan. They arrived early at the stock exchange, but Shen Tu Nan had already prepared countermeasures. The stock price of the Commerce Bank remained stable as he injected a large amount of funds into Xing Xia Bank. Xing Xia Bank's stock price plummeted, and Manager Wang used all the funds to stabilize the market. Shen Tu Nan seized the opportunity and immediately sold the stocks, switching to Xinhe and Cotton Textile stocks, which were the biggest assets of Xing Xia Bank. Xing Xia Bank's stock gradually stabilized while Xinhe and Cotton Textile began to plummet. Manager Wang panicked and called Yu Shi Qing for help. Yu Shi Qing told him to do everything possible to stabilize the Xinhe stocks.
Manager Wang used a large sum of money to make the Xinhe stocks rise, while Shen Tu Nan instructed his broker to sell the Xinhe stocks and invest in Jinlong Cement stocks. Wei Ruo Lai witnessed Shen Tu Nan's series of maneuvers and realized that he was playing a dangerous game. Lin Qiao Song arrested the underground party member, Li Cheng Da, and subjected him to harsh interrogation, but Li Cheng Da refused to confess.
As the Jinlong stocks began to fall, Manager Wang was at a loss and once again turned to Yu Shi Qing for help. Yu Shi Qing instructed him to invest all the funds into Jinlong.
