Episode 5 recap: Gu Man Ting is facing pressure to have a child.
Despite recently ending a relationship, Liang Qing Ran remains calm. She has been conducting experiments, hoping to have both a successful career and a happy family. Liu Si Yuan believes she should find a supportive partner, but Liang Qing Ran has tried and failed before. Liang Qing Ran questions whether it would be enjoyable to have a girlfriend who sees him as the center of the universe. Liu Si Yuan does not answer and simply leaves, mentioning that it's getting late. Lu Zhen Zhen lists all the competitors of Chuan Bai Lou, noting that they may not cook as well as Chen Dong but excel in marketing and presentation. Lu Zhen Zhen asks Chen Dong to carefully study this information and invites classmates to gather at Chuan Bai Lou.
Gu Man Ting prepares chicken soup for Gu Da Peng, and Xu Hao comes to apologize for what happened that day. Although Gu Man Ting is angry, she eventually softens. Xu Hao gives Gu's mother a handbag, and Gu Man Ting brings Gu Da Peng the pot-sticker prawn cakes made by Chen Dong. Unexpectedly, Gu Da Peng angrily runs off to find Chen Dong after taking a bite. Chen Dong receives a message from Gu Man Ting and promptly asks about Gu Da Peng's situation. It turns out that there was no real issue; Gu Da Peng simply used an excuse to go out, as he finds comfort in the kitchen. That night, Gu Da Peng confesses to Chen Dong that he is in the late stages of cancer. He had been keeping it to himself for a long time and feels it's not a big deal to finally talk about it.
Gu Da Peng recalls the early days when Chuan Bai Lou first opened. It started from a small bungalow, which is a matter of pride and hard work for him. Gu Da Peng's greatest aspiration in life is for guests to consider Chuan Bai Lou as the best Sichuan cuisine and for it to be passed down through generations. However, he only has a daughter who refuses to have children, let alone continue the legacy. Gu Da Peng sincerely hopes that Chen Dong will take over Chuan Bai Lou, but Chen Dong hesitates. Gu Man Ting and Xu Hao have agreed to remain childless, but Xu's mother strongly disagrees and often comes to their house to scold Gu Man Ting.
When they return home that night, Xu Hao mentions that her mother has arranged for her to see a traditional Chinese doctor and encourages her to give it a try.
Gu Man Ting reluctantly goes along with it, even though she strongly opposes it in her heart. Xu's mother is essentially pressuring Gu Man Ting to have a child. Gu Man Ting feels frustrated but receives a message from a friend who wants to go to Haijiao City for a meal and ends up calling Gu Man Ting for help.
Gu Man Ting arranges for an internet celebrity to do a live stream to attract more customers to Chuan Bai Lou. However, Chen Dong suddenly appears and questions why Gu Man Ting wants to vomit after eating. Lu Zhen Zhen tries to intervene, but unexpectedly, the live stream becomes popular, and business at Chuan Bai Lou suddenly booms.
Lu Zhen Zhen's mother, who hasn't called her in years, suddenly contacts her. It turns out that she asked someone to deliver something to Lu Zhen Zhen and discovered that Lu Zhen Zhen has returned to Chengdu. For Lu Zhen Zhen, her mother is controlling, so her goal has always been to study in Beijing and break free from her mother's control.
Taking a deep breath, Lu Zhen Zhen returns home, and her mother instinctively hides her concern and questioning. Lu Zhen Zhen's aunt quickly steps in to mediate. Liu Si Yuan suddenly arrives to explain to Lu Zhen Zhen's mother that she came back with a job and is accompanying him. He hopes she won't misunderstand Lu Zhen Zhen. Afterwards, Liu Si Yuan asks Liang Qing Ran to help find a job for Lu Zhen Zhen.
Liang Qing Ran goes to Haijiao City for a meal with the wealthy ladies but finds it boring and leaves early. While at the restaurant, Liang Qing Ran notices her and later invites her to have a drink and chat. The topic of having a child indeed troubles Gu Man Ting, and the two of them have a pleasant conversation.
