Episode 4 recap: Lin Yue Ru held a martial arts contest to choose a spouse, and Li Xiao Yao emerged as the winner.

Zhao Ling Er used a soul-reviving spell to heal Li Xiao Yao's injuries, but due to excessive energy consumption, Zhao Ling Er collapsed from exhaustion. Some villagers passed by the riverside and, upon seeing Zhao Ling Er's snake tail, mistook her for a monster and hastily left. When Li Xiao Yao regained consciousness, he was surprised to find that he had already recovered.

He couldn't help but question whether Zhao Ling Er used magic to heal him. Zhao Ling Er explained that she used the soul-reviving spell taught by her grandmother. In the past, she couldn't comprehend the essence of the spell, but now she finally understood that it must be used on one's true love in this lifetime. After the two departed, the woman who had wounded Li Xiao Yao returned to the riverside with a doctor. Not finding any trace of the two, she concluded that they must be fine and left with relief.

In Suzhou City, the Lin family was preparing for the martial arts contest to choose a spouse. Lin Tian Nan was the largest sect in the Central Plains, and his daughter had been practicing martial arts since childhood, making her exceptionally skilled. Surprisingly, no one had won in the martial arts contest for several years. Lin Yue Ru, the woman who had stabbed Li Xiao Yao, happened to be Lin Tian Nan's daughter. Lin Yue Ru didn't like the challenge set by her father and suggested that if no one won this time, they should stop holding the contest in the future.

Li Xiao Yao and Zhao Ling Er went to a inn to complain, only to be informed that the inn had been booked by Lin Tian Nan to accommodate the participants of the martial arts contest. Disheartened, they left the inn and discovered a child being chased for food money. The child's name was Xiao Dou Zi, and he had secretly sneaked into the restaurant's kitchen and eaten a lot of ingredients. Feeling sorry for Xiao Dou Zi, Zhao Ling Er suggested that they pay for a hearty meal for the child out of their own pockets. However, to their surprise, Xiao Dou Zi seemed to have an insatiable appetite and didn't feel full even after eating a lot of food.

Zhao Ling Er suspected that Xiao Dou Zi had a demonic insect in his stomach. Suddenly, a man walked into the restaurant and confirmed Zhao Ling Er's speculation. Zhao Ling Er then used her powers to drive out the demonic insect from Xiao Dou Zi's belly. The man greatly admired Zhao Ling Er and her abilities. After Xiao Dou Zi left, the man introduced himself as Liu Jin Yuan, the nephew of the local Lin Tian Nan. He explained that the martial arts contest scheduled for the next day was specifically organized for his cousin, Lin Yue Ru. Whenever Lin Yue Ru was mentioned, Liu Jin Yuan became talkative. Li Xiao Yao noticed that Liu Jin Yuan had feelings for Lin Yue Ru, but Liu Jin Yuan had no martial arts skills, so even with his current status as the top scholar, he didn't meet the requirements.

Li Xiao Yao and Liu Jin Yuan had a good conversation, and Li Xiao Yao taught him a few moves that could challenge the contest. The next day, the martial arts contest began, and many participants were defeated by Lin Yue Ru. Liu Jin Yuan was the last to compete. Although he could defend against a few moves, he was ultimately tricked by Lin Yue Ru and knocked off the stage. Li Xiao Yao rushed forward to help him, but Lin Yue Ru noticed and proposed a formal duel with Li Xiao Yao, regardless of the outcome, to discuss martial arts without mentioning the matchmaking.

Li Xiao Yao initially didn't want to get involved, but there were constant jeers from the crowd, and Liu Jin Yuan strongly urged him. Li Xiao Yao had no choice but to accept the challenge. In just a short time, Lin Yue Ru was already defeated by Li Xiao Yao. Lin Tian Nan came down from the stage and announced that Li Xiao Yao was chosen as Lin Yue Ru's husband, even though neither Li Xiao Yao nor Lin Yue Ru agreed. Lin Tian Nan insisted on his decision, believing that the words of the martial arts alliance leader couldn't be easily revoked.

A Nu and Tang Yu also arrived in Suzhou. For A Nu, the local customs and traditions of the Central Plains fascinated her, so she disregarded Tang Yu's objections and went to a jewelry store to buy accessories. Tang Yu managed the finances and disagreed with A Nu's expenditure on accessories.
