Episode 15 recap: The Japanese murderer has been captured.
The room was very dark. Luo Min Min, acting as bait, walked cautiously ahead, her heart pounding. Hua Zhen followed closely behind her. Finally, they came face to face with the savage Japanese killer. Their eyes met, and the Japanese man leapt into the air, aiming for Luo Min Min's vital points. However, he was swiftly kicked down by Hua Zhen. Luo Min Min had a good opportunity to counterattack, but she had not received proper combat training and almost got herself into trouble.
Seeing that more people had arrived, the Japanese man continued to flee. Chen Hao and Hua Zhen rushed forward. The Japanese man was armed with a gun, and fearing for the safety of their colleagues at the police station, Chen Hao locked the door to the room from the inside. After Chen Hao and Hua Zhen worked together to subdue the Japanese man, Chen Hao took out handcuffs and restrained him. Then, Chen Hao also handcuffed Hua Zhen and claimed that he was going to hand the Japanese man over to the Sixteenth Police Station.
Hua Zhen felt furious upon hearing this. He knew that Feng Guang Ping from the Sixteenth Bureau was in cahoots with the Japanese man and would never seek justice for the Meng couple. Chen Hao, of course, would not hand the culprit over to Feng Guang Yun. He had already anticipated this and lied in order to protect Hua Zhen.
Chen Hao forcefully brought the Japanese man to the French Concession, where Shi Jun Yu and the police from the Concession quickly arrived. Shi Jun Yu presented an arrest warrant, accusing the Japanese man of a murder that had taken place in the French Concession and presented the dagger as evidence. Chen Hao pretended to be unaware and reluctant to hand over the murderer they had finally captured to the Concession.
After the Japanese man was taken away, Shi Jun Yu told Chen Hao that the Japanese had a significant influence in China. Even if they caught the murderer, it was unlikely that he would receive the death penalty. The final outcome would be at most extradition and a monetary fine. Chen Hao felt deeply saddened. This was the best possible outcome, but it was disheartening that they couldn't hold the Japanese accountable for their crimes on Chinese soil. They could only extradite them temporarily and prevent them from acting recklessly within China's territory.
Chen Hao also asked Shi Jun Yu about Hua Zhen's identity. Shi Jun Yu had previously investigated and discovered that Hua Zhen came from a strong background. He was currently studying at the Naval Academy and would become an important figure within the Kuomintang after graduation. They were completely different people, and there was no possibility of Hua Zhen becoming one of them.
Chen Hao felt extremely regretful. He had regarded Hua Zhen as a close friend, even a brother in life and death. The thought of them becoming enemies in the future was something he couldn't accept. That night, Chen Hao returned home and found Hua Zhen waiting at his doorstep. Hua Zhen wanted an explanation. Chen Hao claimed that he was taken away by the police from the French Concession on the way. Hua Zhen questioned why Chen Hao had such little faith in the Kuomintang. Even though there was corruption within the Sixteenth Bureau, it didn't mean that the entire Nationalist government was corrupt. Hua Zhen even struck Chen Hao in frustration, leaving Chen Hao feeling deeply wronged. He hated the Japanese more than anyone and hoped to bring them to justice.
The next day, Hua Zhen went to see Shi Jun Yu in the French Concession once again. Shi Jun Yu confirmed once more that extraditing the murderer was the best outcome. Meanwhile, Wei Dai Qing was not idle either. He had been investigating the owner of the belt that was found on the Communist Party member. His investigation led him to Nanjing, where he heard from a tailor that the belt was specially made for Hua Zhen's mother.
Wei Dai Qing was overjoyed and immediately went to request an arrest from Secretary-General Guo of the Kuomintang. However, Secretary-General Guo was cautious and refused to issue an arrest warrant based solely on the belt. He asked Wei Dai Qing to find more evidence. Wei Dai Qing devised a plan to meet Hua Zhen and deliberately mentioned that Deng Mingyuan was going to be executed, offering Hua Zhen the chance to see his teacher one last time.
Originally, Wei Dai Qing had hoped to find evidence that Hua Zhen was a Communist Party member. However, to his surprise, he overheard Hua Zhen asking about Deng Mingyuan's true involvement with the GD. Wei Dai Qing's calculations were wrong, and the opportunity he had fought so hard for turned out to be useless.
