Episode 1 recap: A gathering of five people for a memorial service.

It all started when He Shan, a journalist from Time Magazine, received a phone call from her friend Fei Ke. Fei Ke said that there was something she needed to deliver in person. He Shan immediately took a taxi to the airport to meet Fei Ke. She did indeed find Fei Ke at the airport, but to her astonishment, before they could exchange any words, Fei Ke collapsed near He Shan and started foaming at the mouth.

Emergency personnel rushed to give medical assistance to Fei Ke and then transported him to the hospital. The emergency personnel asked He Shan about her relationship to the patient, but He Shan didn't reveal Fei Ke's name, so she wasn't able to ride in the ambulance. However, she was holding onto the memory card that Fei Ke had given her. She had no idea what it was for or why Fei Ke had entrusted it to her.

Little did He Shan know that something shocking had occurred inside the ambulance at that moment. Soon after, He Shan went back to work as usual. Then, on a typical day, she received a funeral notice stating that Fei Ke had passed away due to illness. The memorial service, where Fei Ke's will would be read and He Shan's name was mentioned, was scheduled to take place on April 8th at Chong'an Island, Fei Ke's former residence.

On April 8th, He Shan took a car to the designated island location, where she was met by Liu Mo, the driver and assistant of her boss, who was responsible for arranging everyone's transportation to the island. Besides Liu Mo, there was another unfamiliar man named Cheng Hao, who rarely spoke. After approximately twenty minutes, the three of them successfully reached the island and arrived at Fei Ke's former residence.

Inside the house, they were greeted by an elderly man with white hair named Chen Shu Fa. At first, Cheng Hao mistakenly thought he was a relative of Fei Ke. Two other people mentioned in Fei Ke's will had not yet arrived. While waiting, Cheng Hao extinguished his cigarette and put it in his pocket without being noticed by Chen Shu Fa or He Shan, who had their backs turned to him.

Shortly after, two more people, Xuan Er and Su Qian, arrived together. Xuan Er was more outgoing and talkative. They introduced themselves to each other—Cheng Hao was a jobless wanderer, He Shan was a journalist, Chen Shu Fa was the chairman of Nanlin Mining and had diabetes, and Su Qian simply identified herself as an ordinary person.

None of the five of them knew each other, so why were they mentioned in the will? And why were they all invited to attend this memorial service? Liu Mo led them to the basement and instructed each person to share their experiences and encounters with Fei Ke before the will could be read. This strange request made everyone hesitant. He Shan took the lead and lifted the coffin lid, only to find it empty. There was no trace of Fei Ke's body.

Liu Mo then left them alone and locked the door, insisting that they had to follow his instructions in order to see Fei Ke. With no other choice, they reluctantly agreed to Chen Shan's suggestion and decided to treat it as a real memorial service, taking turns to share their own experiences with Fei Ke. However, the first peculiar thing they discovered was that the Fei Ke in each of their WeChat accounts was not the same person.

Chen Shu Fa was the first to speak about the Fei Ke he knew. According to him, Fei Ke was not only his son-in-law but also a murderer. In the spring of 2014, Fei Ke met Chen Shu Fa's daughter, Chen Jia Jia. They had only known each other for six months before reaching the stage of discussing marriage.

Chen Shu Fa disapproved of Fei Ke as his son-in-law, but Chen Jia Jia was deeply infatuated with him. Reluctantly, Chen Shu Fa agreed to meet Fei Ke. Originally, they had planned to meet at a Western restaurant, but Fei Ke, considering that the food there didn't suit Chen Shu Fa's taste, suggested cooking at home. Chen Shu Fa and his daughter went to Fei Ke's other house on Songshan Road, near the outer ring.

Cheng Hao immediately confirmed the specific location with Chen Shu Fa and stated that it was not Fei Ke's house but his own.
