Episode 21 recap: Bai Ye flew into a rage, and Nan Gong YaoXiao Dou Zi got married.
Bai Ye's repeated requests greatly displeased Nan Gong Yao. Bai Ye asked at least to be allowed to see Xiao Dou Zi, and Nan Gong Yao granted this. When Bai Ye saw Xiao Dou Zi, he again explained the necessity of Xiao Dou Zi leaving the palace with him, but Xiao Dou Zi thought it was absurd - how could a weak woman like her endanger the entire country of Jisi? Moreover, she loved the Crown Prince so much that even if it cost her life, she would not harm Nan Gong Yao. Bai Ye was almost enraged, as he clearly liked Xiao Dou Zi and had made many sacrifices, but in Xiao Dou Zi's eyes, he was insignificant.
Back at the Tianjiju, Bai Ye flew into a rage. Since the two of them did not appreciate his efforts, he would not blame himself for being heartless. When the Crown Prince was discussing politics, Bai Ye dressed in mourning clothes and announced that the prophecy about the Crown Prince falling in love with Princess Shengdong, leading to the downfall of Jisi, was about to come true. Mei Cheng Xiang was the first to oppose this, saying that his daughter was the one marrying the Crown Prince, and how could she be related to Princess Shengdong? Bai Ye then explained the matter of exchanging bodies with the Moon Spirit Pearl. Seeing that Bai Ye was determined to prevent the marriage, Nan Gong Yao directly accused him of being jealous, but Bai Ye was not to be outdone, saying that many prophecies had already come true, and this one would be no exception.
In the Chongwen Academy, the matter of Xiao Dou Zi and Mei Yu Shan exchanging bodies was widely discussed. Although Su Ruo Mei generally disliked Xiao Dou Zi, she absolutely did not believe that Xiao Dou Zi harbored any intentions of harming the Crown Prince. Even the simple-minded Huang Yuanyuan believed that Xiao Dou Zi lacked the physical strength, so Su Ruo Mei proposed that they put aside their prejudices and jointly prove Xiao Dou Zi's innocence to the Empress.
Liu Jiaoyuan incited several officials to gather in front of the Eastern Palace and shout loudly, threatening to execute the "demonic woman" Xiao Dou Zi. Hearing the commotion outside, Xiao Dou Zi grew increasingly angry. Her parents had been killed, and now she was being framed. Looking at the valuable items in the room, she began to smash them one by one, venting her indignation.
As Xiao Dou Zi was about to destroy the incense burner, she accidentally cut her arm and cried out in pain. Left Left came in to check, and quickly reported to Nan Gong Yao. Nan Gong Yao rushed to the room and personally bandaged Xiao Dou Zi's wound. Xiao Dou Zi told Nan Gong Yao to just kill her, as keeping her confined was nonsensical. Nan Gong Yao scolded Xiao Dou Zi for her outburst, not understanding his heartfelt efforts.
The officials were still pleading outside the gate. Commissioner Pei, on the emperor's orders, came to the Eastern Palace to arrest someone. The Crown Prince directly stood with Winter West in front of the door, declaring that anyone who defied the order and barged in would be considered his enemy. Commissioner Pei was unable to enter. Just as they were at an impasse, the Empress arrived with her men, and Nan Gong Yao had no choice but to hand over Xiao Dou Zi.
The Empress interrogated Xiao Dou Zi, asking why she had approached the Crown Prince with ill intentions. Xiao Dou Zi refused to confess, instead mocking the Empress's inability to distinguish good from evil. Infuriated, the Empress ordered her to be slapped, but even then Xiao Dou Zi did not confess. Nan Gong Yao hurried to the Huacai Palace, where an official requested to depose the Crown Prince and install the Eighth Prince as the heir, to avoid calamity for the country. Of course, the Empress did not entertain this. The Crown Prince also directly stated that the Eighth Prince could not control the corrupt officials, and that he would prioritize the greater good. He then walked to the guards and drew his sword. Everyone thought he was going to kill Xiao Dou Zi, but Nan Gong Yao only cut a lock of her hair and one of his own, announcing their marriage before the crowd, much to everyone's astonishment.
After the commotion, Xiao Dou Zi was imprisoned. Su Ruo Mei and the others visited her in jail, and Xiao Dou Zi was deeply moved. After they left, Nan Gong Yao appeared again, saying he would find a way to send Xiao Dou Zi out of the palace to avoid further trouble.
