Episode 6 recap: The Chongwen Academy entrance exam was a disaster, and Mei Yu Shan was punished with copying books.
On the first day of class at the Chongwen Academy, Mei Yu Shan and Xiao Dou Zi were late. Xiao Dou Zi scolded Mei Yu Shan for her lack of time management. To avoid punishment, Mei Yu Shan had Xiao Dou Zi climb over the wall with her, with Xiao Dou Zi stepping on Mei Yu Shan's shoulders and precariously holding onto the wall. Just then, Nan Gong Yao happened to be walking towards the entrance and coughed loudly, causing the two girls to turn around and tumble down to the ground in a disheveled state. However, Nan Gong Yao and Nan Gong Pin helped them climb over the wall into the courtyard, while Nan Gong Yao himself entered through the main gate, making Mei Yu Shan realize he had deliberately put them in a difficult situation.
During the first lesson, Tai Fu was lecturing on legal knowledge, and the dull content had the class in a state of boredom, with the princes whispering to each other and the three young ladies passing notes. Mei Yu Shan simply fell asleep on her desk. Tai Fu then changed his approach and shared a relevant real-life case, which greatly benefited the students.
Next, the etiquette master Liu Jiao taught court etiquette and announced that the entrance exam would be held the next day, with the Princess of the Friendly Kingdom also participating. The Emperor demanded that each student give their full effort to bring honor to the Western Kingdom, and at least avoid completely failing the exam. On the day of the exam, the Princess and a few other students were competing, with Su Ruo Mei eagerly asking the Princess to secure the top spot to avenge her. However, the Princess stated that since they had not studied diligently, relying on her was unreliable.
During the exam, only Mei Yu Shan was aimlessly looking around, unsure of what to do. Nan Gong Yao submitted his exam paper early, and Tai Fu praised it as having a grand and stately style worthy of an emperor. The Princess also had a unique perspective and was considered a talented young lady, while the others performed averagely. But Mei Yu Shan's exam paper only had some scribbles, revealing her complete lack of knowledge, which greatly angered Tai Fu.
When Tai Fu asked a few questions about ancient poetry, Mei Yu Shan answered completely off-topic, just guessing the responses, which caused the other students to burst out laughing. As punishment, Mei Yu Shan was required to copy books for twenty days, with Nan Gong Yao tasked with supervising her. This filled Mei Yu Shan with dread, as she had to painstakingly copy books every day. Nan Gong Yao would also be in charge, and sometimes, even when it was mealtime and he was hungry, he would still torment Mei Yu Shan - not allowing her to eat if he couldn't.

After the second round of copying, Nan Gong Yao's inspection revealed that 275 characters were missing. Mei Yu Shan didn't believe he could spot this so precisely, and challenged him to a bet - if the count was wrong, Nan Gong Yao had to return the Moonlight Pearl, but if Mei Yu Shan lost, she would have to become his disciple. Sure enough, Nan Gong Yao was right, and the count was accurate each time. After several days of this, Mei Yu Shan even complained about it in her sleep, but eventually, she managed to copy the text perfectly without missing a single character. Mei Yu Shan then formally became Nan Gong Yao's disciple, and their time spent together was quite comfortable.
